CTR Dev Time Trials - Part 15. Megamix Mania & Gingerbread Joyride..

Part 15 in my Crash Team Racing: Developer time trial series. Last but one, I'm surprised this series didn't reach the 20's tbh. Today I went up again two difficult tracks, Gingerbread Joyride and Megamix Mania, Glad to get them done.

Lewis, you dont get boosts when landing sometimes because you accidentally do a perfect frame jump when landing and that eliminates the landing boost

I can guarantee that's not correct. Jump on the boost pad and you'll get a landing boost, jump just before and you'll not get a landing boost. The landing seems to be determined on if the game thinks it's a hop or a jump instead of going on air time.

Even if the jump was on the landing frame the landing will have to be detected first so it just wouldn't jump. Also speed ghosting is hopping whilst keeping momentum (pretty cool for a 1999 game)

Nearly done Lewis! I nearly had moments like 16:10 but I got clutch wins instead 😂 I've nearly finished too, all Oxide times I mean, in just a week. My remaining tracks are (from the CTR and CNK tracks): Mystery Caves (Oxide is ungodly tough here tbh, this is worse than most other tracks surprisingly) Dragon Mines (say no more) Electron Avenue Assembly Lane

Lewis, the whole landing and not getting a boost thing is a frame perfect bug, usually frame perfect is something that’s insanely rare but since this game is 30 FPS it’s not that rare at all

I've been replaying some of these harder trials trying to beat my own times and I gotta tell you, it is a hell of a lot of fun. I had to relearn how to do many of these tracks to beat the devs. But now that I know how to get the lowest times possible on them, I find it very helpful to look where I took a turn a bit too wide or where I should have boosted, etc. I don't even get mad when I fail, 'cause I know it's my own time. Lewis, my man, I would recommend you to do a "Beat my own ghost" kind of series, in the future when ever you feel like it.

I’ve been trying to master the U-Turn (or Air Brake..not really sure what the difference is) on a lot of the more difficult courses and I have to say it’s very tough! If I ever do eventually succeed in beating all the ghosts in Time Trial I will dedicate my victory to you, Lewis. Huh, I didn’t know many considered these 2 tracks to be difficult. I knocked these 2 down both in under 10 attempts. Great driving though, since you only have 1 left to go. Sorry for meddling here but In certain terrain angles if you position your kart in the right spot the ground/walls collision pushes you forward in which I think is the max speed available in the game. Going for the jump and landing with boost kills the speedghost that you would've got if you didn't jump. Look up Nina's nightmare, Electron Avenue or Hyper Spaceway speedghosts if you're interested. I don't think there's one in Mega Mix Mania though.

If you press Jump again just as your kart lands (I think it's on the first frame) you jump again without triggering the boost. It's used mainly on Speed Ghosts. I recommend watching TheViperian video about Speed Ghosts (CTR Tips #22), he talks about this around the 10 minute mark.

Just did slide last night with drift. Just a fair warning the ghost messes up the most on lap 1 which allows you to get in front but his lap 2 is damn near perfect. Lap 3 he loses his flame in the very beginning of the track but gains it back pretty quickly. Overall if you have a lead during lap 1, maintain it through lap 2 and 3 it should be a fairly easy win. Only took me 25 attempts compared to the average 35-45
