The well goes much deeper than Midas. I hope you check out the first record. My favorite of 2022. Voice of a generation.

Hey Nate. I'm a big fan of Cub but thought the songs on Midas were all a bit simple, and didn't have as much replay value as the ones on their debut. It seems that most people think the opposite- that Midas blows Cub out the water. What do you think?
@natereiter1118 күн бұрын
@whyisntitpossible404 I will say that my initial reaction to Midas was the same as yours. As you said, glorious chord progressions and orchestration. Midas is like the In Utero record (and recorded at Pachyderm), more raw, and like the same chord progression throughout nearly every song. No middle 8, no changes. In that way it was disappointing because the journey on Cub is breathtaking. I felt like this batch of songs is similar to contemporary pop artists in what might be considered a "boring", same throughout arrangement. A lot of the drama relies on where Jacob takes the lyrics and melody. I will say the more I listen to Midas, the more it grows on me. All of the passion is still there, and the songs are touching even in such simple forms. I imagine it was on purpose. For some reason (Cub? Jacob?) I have all the faith in the world that they'll keep churning out great songs. State-side they are finally hitting Minneapolis, so I'm going to see them this winter. And my buddy and I are driving to Chicago to see them at the Metro the night before. I suspect there won't be a ton of opportunities to see them in small venues in the future.

Found out about these guys at the start of March this year and got hooked. Midas is an album with no skips for me, my favourite song by them doesn't stay the same for long. They're already working on Album 3. I saw them in Leeds this October, which was my first concert and they were bloody phenomenal. The Pixies-ness is quite a good observation, as they were support for them on one of their tours. As well as supporting Fontaines D.C. again, they're supporting Sam Fender again too. I lost my Stepdad this January, and when I discovered Wunderhorse a few months afterwards, their music helped me so much, to cope with my grief - honestly, I didn't know what to feel/do/say when I went through it, but this band made a tough time a lot easier for me and I have never felt that way until hearing them for the first time. Me and him had a shared bond of music, he showed me a lot of bands that I now love; I only wish that I had found these guys sooner, because I know for sure that he would have enjoyed them too. That may sound cliché, I know, but I do genuinely feel that way. Thanks for everything Paul...

@ true, but you have to remember that Fontaines are 3 years and 2 albums ahead of wunderhorse, if you listen to Jacob’s first album (Pinky, I love you) then you can see development in style, I think the band needs time to develop like Fontaines DC have so I think that’s a harsh view on them from that perspective

The gig was great (what a set of pipes Ian Astbury has!!) I was secretly hoping The Darkness may have supported, both being British bands and remembering you hung out with those guys at a festival this summer - 'Open Fire' would have gone down a treat! Alas, the universe had other plans and delivered a support act of the most unusual and interesting kind... Jonathan Hultén. I was captivated and bewitched by his mesmerising performance.
