Is there a way to adjust the brake / shift lever down to account for the change in footpeg height?

I would love to know the details of how you get the spring in position. I have done this job once, and I struggled quite a lot with the spring. I'm about to do the job for a second time, and I'm sure it will go more smoothly but it's still challenging to deal with that spring.
