Just came from Denis Shiryaev's video "Flying Train 1902" that was upscaled and made into 60fps. It's certainly mindblowing to see such old footage being played back at a good resolution with 60fps. Wanted to see how it looks like today and this video was excellent I must say! Very calm with no talking, perfect!

Some 45 years ago I visited Europe for the first time in my life and lived in Wuppertal for nearly two months, where I was warmly received by a lovely German family over Christmas. The memories of that time are still strong but thus video re-energized them majorly. I and my German penpal rode the Schwebebahn up and down the Wupper river and downtown Wuppertal dozens of times!

I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I've been to Wuppertal twice and find it a charming little town, but I'm quite biased because the Schwebebahn is one of my favorite trains in the world! I also took day trips to Dusseldorf and Dortmund and the transportation on buses and regular trains is amazing!

We Japanese love Germany and Germans very much.Germany and Germans are the best in the world. God bless Germany and Germans.Japan's national anthem Kimigayo was made by Hayashi Hiromori and German Franz Eckert.Japan made the constitution, medicine, the army in by reference to Germany during the Meiji era. Japan succeeded in modernizing thanks to Germany. Japan learned a lot from Germany.TWe Japanese sent 9,000 cherry blossom trees to Germany in 1990. It is said that the money of this cherry blossom trees is gathered by the donation of the Japanese and bought a cherry blossom trees . Almost all Japanese people participated in donations. The Japanese always cooperate with Germany.This cherry blossom tree is still in Berlin.We Japanese love Germany and Germans very much. Japan imports many German products to support Germany. The most imported cars in Japan are German cars.Most of the cars that run in my town are German cars.This is a story that Japanese people helped Germans in japanese Okinawa Miyakojima, Japan. In 1873, the German Merchant shipRobertoson was hit by a typhoon.The ship was aground off Miyakojima Miyakokuni. At that time, the islander rescues the crew.They gave some food to the Germans.They gave Germans a place to sleep. The islanders repaired the German ship.The days were 34 days.And the islanders put a lot of food and water on the ship and sent the Germans to Germany safely.There are still monuments sent from Germany in Okinawa.Japan will always help Germans from now on. After the war, the German city was destroyed and many Germans were killed. We Japanese are very sad about that. I pray to God that Germany will never be unhappy again. There is a tower in my town praying for the Germans soul to be saved.It is a story in the Bando camp.About 100 years ago, there were many German prisoners of war in Japan.Japan did not treat German POWs awfully. The Japanese treated German POWs as friends. Japan respected German POW freedom.Japan did not force German POWs to work. Germans were respected in Japan. They spread German culture and history, beer and sausages, Bam Kuuchen etc to Japan. The German bridge created by German prisoners of war is still well preserved in Japan.Japan did not want a war with Germany. At that time, Britain and Japan were allies. There was a request from the United Kingdom, and it became a battle with Germany. Japan allowed German POWs to do sports and cultural activities.Exchanges between villagers and Germans were also popular. It is more correct to say that the camp where the Germans were located is a German village than a camp. When the Germans returned home, Japanese and Germans grieved for goodbye.

Great film, made in a special time where you could see both generations of wagons. The old ones (blue-orange) and the new ones (light-blue). Now the old ones had been sorted out and the new ones are not working properly. So there is now a long break until summer 2021 in transportation. The new one have problems with the wheels and the wheels are damaging the rails. If you would like to make a ride look if the system is working again.

I was born in Wuppertal. And i live there. Sometimes i use the Schwebebahn. It isnt special for me. Only the changings of the river is worth to take a ride time by time. The video caught the feelings of riding the Schwebebahn really good. Really good looking video.

Thank you very much! I always wish I had better, more sunny, weather to film in but Wuppertal is famous for its rainy weather most of the year. I was lucky to not get rained on much. I was planning to stay one more day to film but the Schwebebahn (and buses) were on a one day strike! I also really wish I had the opportunity to ride the Kaiserwagon! Maybe next visit.

What do you do for the train? I love the trams, metro, and intercity trains in Holland. I was just in Amsterdam to film the new North-South line. It was all sparkling new and fun to ride!

No reason to be afraid. Just have a nice look down to the clean Wupper river and transfer this to Ganga river. My experiences are from the 70s, when the Schwebebahn "screamed" a lot while changing the direction.

I rode the Schwebebahn the same day in April 2005 that Cardinal Josef Ratzinger was made Pope Benedict XVI. That day's news had the title "Wir sind Papst!" Monday 13 August I hopefully will return to Wuppertal to ride the new trains

Does anyone know why this technology hasn't been adopted in more cities? Seems like a better alternative to Light Rail running on the ground, and probably much less expensive to build than underground subways
@Luke_Starkenburg
@Luke_Starkenburg 6 жыл бұрын
Stephen D some would say that light rail specifically has a monopoly on new transit systems built in the last 20 years. Urban planners love building the slow, traffic inducing, low capacity light rail/streetcar/trolleys instead of looking outside the box to more innovative systems like monorails and urban maglevs. These systems (including the Schwebebahn) are completely grade separated and don’t get stuck in traffic. They don’t hit cars, pedestrians, or bikers. The main argument presented against monorail and urban maglev is that it is not compatible with any existing rail which might be already existing in a city.
@notroll1279
@notroll1279 6 жыл бұрын
Stephen D It's pretty complex and expensive so it's not really a competitive concept. It worked well for Wuppertal, however, as the town straddles a narrow river valley where the space above the water was the only one available for public transport.

It's a lot more expensive to build than light rail while still taking up much more otherwise usable space than a subway. Wuppertal happens to have just the right geography for it, where it's able to travel over the river and reach many important parts of the city.

It's expansive and very noisy. What about the people in the homes nearby. And that concept is kind of scary. I don't think is good idea. Just a simple bus line is the better concept. Isn't coincidence the bus lines are the most common public transport in the world.
