Here’s some weird prank you could do: put your pfp as something pretty generic, stay with that pfp for like a year, after that download Voicemod (a free voice changer that is safe and easy to use), try to find a weird and very scary and weird sound effect, make them join a call, use the sound effect in the call (making them get creeped out), then quickly change your pfp to something very weird with some hidden text that says “YOU HAVE TO HELP ME, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS WILL GET TO YOU BUT I NEED HELP”, change your pfp every first day of a month then, after a year just set it to the troll face (works better if you’ve met the friend only online and he doesn’t know where you live, adds up to the creepiness, and also set you status as “offline”) I have to go to bed, I am starting to think about malicious pranks

As someone w/ full black profile picture on FB it has nothing to do with any of those, even tho I actually have diagnosed depression and many other issues it's just for the aesthethic purposes or you can think about it like the default profile just a bit cooler, you basically can't find anything decent to use or you don't want to reveal your personality/yourself too much so you just go with something solid that has no meaning. Elsewhere I just use self made pics or just use one of my 3D Renders as pfp. Now that I think about it it could also indicate social phobia ( fear of being judged ) so ppl pick something basic and simple that no one can nitpick on such as solid color profile pic and also it can indicate perfectionism ( I do have both ) like a struggle to find the perfect profile pic so you're like fuck the pure black will do for now. On another hand ppl with black and white dark selfies/random pics especially those blurred/distorted pics fits your description or it could simply look cool for them as a photo/art style.
