My Ancestor Konrad Krause was one of the German-American settlers that helped found the town of Anhalt in Spring Branch Texas. Many of my relatives arrived in Galveston in the 1850's from Hesse, Germany and many lived and died in New Braunfels as well.

Last November I visited San Antonio TX (trying not to confuse that with Sankt Anton am Arlberg in Tirol) and at the Alamo, where in 1836 over 180 defenders sacrificed their lives in a last stand against the Mexican forces of Santa Anna, the chapel interior is adorned with the flags of the birthplaces of the defenders. One of the flags on display is 🇩🇪.

God, do I like this song, it’s a shame that the majority of Americans of German heritage retained so little of their culture. Imagine how it must’ve been like if the German-American identity is still as prominent like Italian-Americans or Irish-Americans.

@@MassachusettsTrainVideos1136 Yeah I know. Two things that I don’t like about German identity today: 1. Americans of German descent retain so little of their ancestral values 2. Because of Stalin and Hönecker after WW2, 39% of all Germans lost their faith in Christianity, and it’s very unlikely that most of them would return to that faith anytime soon.
@MassachusettsTrainVideos1136 Жыл бұрын
@@DMH-bt2zo I know people with German ancestry who are trying to rediscover their culture and learn their language so this is a good thing but in general German and French people in the US don't care about their culture or know about it.
