I actually did some kung-fu when I was younger and this butterfly kick I could never get the hang of, people that can do it make it look so effortless and stunning at the same time.

Thank you for showing this. I had needed this movement in some dances and always had a hard time with it. I have seen some other Wushu tutorials on this but they were missing the body rotation when the body is horizontal during the takeoff step. Your tutorial completed the basic knowledge for me.

for people who do not know or think they know, this is an incredibly dangerous move. this move, if done correctly, happens incredibly fast and can snap your opponents necks, it is designed to demolish and snap your neck vertebrae, I would be very careful with using this move on people who do not want to hurt you. It has obviously become stylistic because it looks cool, but this is not a joke. It is designed to snap your opponents neck, if used at correct height, be careful!

I went to a Wushu class for one day, twenty two years ago. Because I told the sifu that I knew Choy Lei Fut, he taught me the butterfly kick. Now I know the Choy Lei Fut version AND the Wushu version of butterfly kick. Homeland loyalty is worth more than all the coffee in America. And thanks to this little lady, I know how to do it whilst wielding a claymore sword.

i wanted to add something that helped me alot get this kick: the leg that you jump off of must pivot also, to face the audience. This helps you get the rotation down.
