I agree that for the weight can not be the only factor that maters. But for the same material, heavy weight make the tool more stable long lasting. My two cents.

even though the material is the same, weight will different from the shape and thickness for obvious reasons. you feel robust with heavy irons but that comes with price also. hard to get both.

When you get a chance, could you reply or email me the steps in your saddle stitch for the reverse pricking iron? I have been trying and my stitches aren't looking good. I need to get this down because I have a bag I can't do the top stitching on with my machine. I have been doing it this way....Lin cable 532 thread number 4 needle..right side facing left..go through with left needle..put right needle in front of left thread..pull through. My stitches are straight like a machine stitch...but something doesn't look right..it's like there is no space between each separate stitch...

I will just write simply here : you just turn your leather around and stitch normally. it's exactly the same!

What type of hand stitching did you use for the reverse pricking iron? I ordered the 3.38 after watching this video! Do you use single needle one hand or double needle? I haven't learned hand stitching yet.

I used two needles. Traditional French saddle stitching. you can search for "saddle stitch" on youtube. you will find some videos quite usuful.

leathertoolz ok. I have been searching for a video on a single needle stitch. I like that one for some reason lol. But I will give the two needle a try until I figure the one needle out. As long as the two needle will still give me a stitch that looks like the machine, I should be good. I loved your heated edge paint video. I am about to. It an alcohol lamp and ticklers creaser too. I've been using this wellers soldering like tool but I believe it gets too hot. I ordered the vernis paint and will see how it does with that. Can a wing divider be heated to mark stitch lines on chrome leather? I can't find an affordable Osborne adjustable creaser.

You can explore other chinese tool makers who produces the tools themselves. I think they deserve more attention. Wuta does not really make tools themselves

Chinese makers are hard to find through google without Mandarin skills. I've seen yangtools and cmdachong - both do great work. If you have links to any other makers I'd love to check them out!

Hi again. So I tried out my wuta leather reverse 3.38 pricking irons. I have a granite slab on top of a table..with a horse stall mat on top of the granite..then a scrap piece of leather maybe 2 to 3 oz. On top of the scrap leather I am practicing on chrome tanned leather thats maybe 3 oz. I thought the pricking iron would go all the way through..but it doesn't. The 2 teeth iron does..but not the 8 teeth. I polished the irons following your video with my 1000/3000 grit whetstone. I don't have a strop so I used a piece of leather for that. My mallet was inexpensive...off of amazon..its round and not sure what the material is...its white. It seems pretty heavy...I don't know if its the mallet or the iron..or just me lol. Any suggestions? Also, the sound I make when I hit the pricking iron is loud..when I watch your videos it seems quieter. Could there be something wrong with my set up? Would a cutting board be better to put on top of the granite to use for pounding? sorry for this long comment!

hello! get rid of horse stall mat! lol! just kidding! I think it's best to use leather board(leathers glued together) on granite. if you can't make leather board, IKEA cutting board on granite is good too.

leathertoolz lol ok. I have the stall mat under the granite with a piece on top too. But I do have some pieces of leather glued together that I put under the thing I am putting holes in. What leather sent me a new pricking iron. It is sharper than the previous one...but still not going through both layers of my 3 oz leather. Maybe my mallet isn't heavy enough? I bought it off of amazon.

I got a set from Wuta. They are decent. Only complain is hey are much lighter than a Blanchard pricking Iron. I am not sure how it compare to Amyrock one ? Can you weight both and let us know

Higher weight does not equal better quality. Lead is very heavy and would be terrible.

How do they perform against Amy Roke? Looking for a good pricking irons. Do they worth it or should I add some money and order Amy? What size would you recommend for wallets, watch straps, belts? 3, 3.38?

+Кирилл Назаров they work really hood just like Amy Roke. if you don't want to wait or spend too much on single tool. Wuta is really good choice. for size, it's just matter of your preference but for wallet and watch straps, 3.0mm is good. for belt, you need 3.38 or 3.85mm because they are really long and little thick so you don't want too tiny stitchings

Thanks for the response. I want to order two irons 2+5 or 8 teeth. I have kyoshin elle 2+5 4mm(diamond shape) so for me its kind of a move towards better quality of my stitching. I want to be sure the irons are OK for now and the future when I develop skills for that kind of stitching. Just cant decide if Amy worth those additional money. It's not a problem to wait a month for production. Its just $40 difference for 2+8 irons, I see a lot of people like and prefer Amy to any other irons so I'm looking towards it.

@@kirillnazarov1982 я интересуюсь вот почему. Заказал на грумиксе косые пробойники 3.85мм (они ещё не пришли) , пока они едут ко мне я вычитал такую проблему. Если нужно пробить изделие на которой две стороны лицевые то с одной стороны будет некрасивый шов. Так ли это? И как избежать такой проблемы. Судя по всему раз вы не заказали реверсные, то проблемы как таковой быть не должно 🤔

Hi Jun, have you come across this guy's irons?: m.blog.naver.com/kot1968/220722650865 He goes by Taehwa steel on Instagram. At the current exchange rate the price seems comparable to Wuta. The finish isn't as polished as Wuta, but from what I gather on the blog he seems to hand forge each iron.

+antonc81 yeah I have seen one. I have seen his pricking iron from the blog and instagram. Yeah they are tapered by hammer and he hand files them. some people love them, some people don't. To me, it looks like copy of Iwataya pricking iron which is hand forged and filed in Japan. I do have Iwataya so I don't buy Taehwa's. If I ever have a chance to try them. I will do review on them but not planning to buying them just yet.

those are really really hard to get. they are sold immediately when they are made. they only sell in their workshop in Japan. I have many sets from them. I got them years ago but I am not sure if I should do review on them because they are nearly impossible to get for average person. it's not expensive. it's moderately priced. for the price and function, Wuta is good. Iwataya makes unique stitching from unique teeth shape. it looks like TaeHwa pricking irons. they are just original makers.
