Wonderful to see the Vickers Medium running. This would have been the tank my grandfather knew when he joined the Tank Corp in 1924.

The Swedish LK2 is one astonishing piece of jewelry of the Arsenalen and whole tank history world. They are so proud of it, and hell, this is really something to be proud of. Imagine the Little Willy and Mark 2 rolling around on the Bovington ground track. That's the same level of involvement in the renovation project. Stefan should smile more, he is such a great funny guy! Love Arsenalen videos.

Gotta say, love the goofy nature of early tanks before the design got "figured out". Even the Vickers Medium with the motor in the front, the swinging box doors for the driver's face and the big box for the crew in the back.

That pattern of engine before turret and crew is echoed in IFVs , SP artillery, and Merkava tanks today. I think it would have been interesting if it had been developed further then!

I actually researched and have studied the Medium Mark 2 ( at 5:55) a lot and I know the tank being referenced as existing in South Africa. That tank is actually the only surviving Mark 1 of the medium series, if you look at images of the two tanks side by side the dead giveaway is the lack of armor over the suspension system on the Mark 1 compared to the Mark 2. It is also worth noting that some of the Medium Mark 2's were actually still active at the start of WW2 and were used in the defense of Mersa Matruh. Three had been sent from the Siwa oasis to aid in the defense, and one of them burned down on the journey to Mersa Matruh, there are some pictures of it online. The surviving two where then used as stationary bunkers and were captured by the Germans who did nothing with them and they were still there when the British returned.

@@mfulan7548 The exact sites I used for research I don't have, but I do have copies of the photographs of the burnt out tank and one of the turrets of these being used as a defensive position.

I remember going inside an abandoned Vickers medium on the hill at the back of the School Of Infantry around 1965. Maybe it's still there, covered in scrub. Still had the the Vickers brass name plate on it.

Last 'kill' ever made by WW1-era tank was in Portsmouth during WW2? That is quite long service for vehicle not designed for long-term use.

I'm curious, I understand the close cooperation with the various museums of the US, Germans, Dutch, Swedes, etc, how much cooperation do you get with Kubinka? Do you ever offer "temp/trade" vehicles with them so that the people over there can get glimpses of your rarer vehicles?

The Challenger is a dong. That being said, retiring your few WW1 tanks is the right thing to do. I hope you'll keep them in running condition, while making sure that they don't get worn out.

LostInPA When the tank roles by you can see this round object come into view right in front of the hatch that appears at an unnatural 45° angle. It looks like something you would see if you were trying to use a green screen or something and your editing wasn’t perfect.
