Let’s s hope she opens the next Classic Fighters Airshow with another spectacular “‘round the corner” low level steep turn fly past. It’s been sadly missed.

Due to housing developments the display line changed at the most recent airshow, so sadly the Omaka Corner is no more. Hood Aerodrome at Masterton, however...

@@ZacYates What a travesty. So all that remains are the photographs (videos) and memories? How sad. At least I’ve some beauties of Keith Skilling clearly observable in the cockpit as he hooted around the corner. No better opening to any Airshow the world over.

Being it was a clipped wing version for operations on RN carriers, it should carry RN style markings. Very beautifully reatored though! The Corsair was a favorite of mine, when I was teenager, I built like 20 them and hung them from the ceiling like they were bouncing a squadron of Zeroes. Yeah, probably a bit obsessive, but it looked good!

As a child in my motherland, mes amis, I read the memoirs of a chap who was a combat pilote of one of these in WWII. He Claimed the flight manual said that the glide-characteristics were SO poor, that if the engine stopped, you should bail-out (if high enough) ... OR 'Whistle A Happy Tune and Kiss Your Ass Goodbye '! ... because a 'dead-stick’ landing was very iffy.

So strange to see a clipped-wing Corsair in USN livery. I agree with the folks below - she belongs in her RNZAF livery!

Excellent video & information. Do you know if it’ll be returned to its RNZAF markings / paint scheme? Thanks

Beautiful machine! As a kid in the 1960s I remember one of these stabled in a paddock next to a farmers house somewhere around Te Kuiti, Waitomo or Otorohanga or elsewhere in the Waikato. It appeared to be in very good condition. There was nothing around but this brick house and incongruously, the Corsair beside the road. Whatever happened to it, or did I just imagine it? I do remember that for some unfathomable reason my father wasn’t particularly interested in buying it, and at 9 years I didn’t have the dough. 😭

I once asked Keith Skilling what was his favourite WW2 fighter to fly and he said the Corsair without hesitation.

I knew a former RNZAF pilot of one of these during WW11. His name was Neville Jackson. After the war he returned to running his family one man bicycle shop business in Anzac Avenue (Auckland) during the fifties and sixties. After that I lost touch with him. My father a former RNZAF B24 pilot over Europe, held Neville in quiet high regard. He told me you didn't sit behind the control column of a Corsair unless you were a more than capable pilot.

I'm glad that they fly it with the landing gear extended 😌. I cringe thinking about an irreplaceable war bird crashing. 😬
