Barbarossa was total madness because: 1. Huge distances ate away the moral. 2. Germans simply had not enough soldiers (approx. 1:4) 3. German army totally not equipped for extreme colds. 4. German army fought on two fronts 5. Supply lines so long were undefendable and so on ..........

mainly due to the failure of achieving any real objectives in the campaign Foreign units where a problem since they were commanded by German officers. Hitler planned to encircle russia and prevent stalin from his resources.it was his generals who wanted a full frontal war which failed miserably. War itself involves the loss of life, but thru war comes the chance to start a new chapter and right the wrongs of the previous society. War often ends up saving lives if it's a valid and justified war. If the Nazis were allowed to occupy the Soviet Union and hold on to Europe. Hundreds of millions of people would have died as a result of the racial agenda the Nazis had. Ww2 saved the lives of over half a billion people as well as saving the cultures of countless races and groups of ppl.

This footage starts with Kharkiv, Ukraine and then continues with villages in Eastern Ukraine. Typical villages and people. Very interesting for me, since my father and his parents lived there at that time. And this feels rather symbolic, that the people at the same places are experiencing another tragedy at these days, probably much worse, Russian invasion. The German Soviet war of 1941-45 was a brutal conflict, fought on both sides with unrelenting harshness, and without pity or regard to the normal rules of war. Hitler instructed his Generals not to give the Soviets ANY quarter. Some of these men no doubt handed out the kind of savagery that they were subjected to in return. It is an old saying 'live by the Sword, die by it'.

Heart wrenching to watch just wondering how many of those smiling faces from both civilians and soldiers would have their lives extinguished from their bodies. On their way to hell on earth. It's just impossible to grasp what I believe is to have been the real dark age of humanity. Millions dying by the day. To contrast the beauty of the countryside with the imminent death of those passing by is almost cruel. Life has no feelings. Fates sealed on both the people that perished and the "lucky" ones to have survived to never be the same. I'm sure those that made it back home never actually went back home baring the physical and mental scars and wounds until the day death relieved them from their unfortunate lives and harrowing memories.

Great footage. Terrible narration which is not grounded in the facts. The beginning footage is showing a Ukrainian city of Kharkiv while the narrator suggests it is Sothern Russia. The narrator is totally clueless that Russia did not even exist as a country in 1942. It was a part of the USSR, as was Ukraine. Even if the author meant to say 'USSR', the places shown are not a southern part but rather western part of USSR. Totally misleading. Still enjoyed the footage though.

You have so much history and a man just wanted that to burn bright and burn together in each of your hearts, we are all different people and we work better together with them and that’s being taken away from us now.
