WW2 German Knife Tested! Paratrooper Gravity Knife

Today we will test the At The Front reproduction WW2 German Paratrooper Gravity Knife to see if it will perform the basic tasks related to cutting yourself out of a parachute in an emergency. We will also see if it will throw sparks off of a fire steel.

I would love to get one of these, but gravity knives are prohibited down here. When i did my parachuting, the army never gave us a fancy knife. Probably too worried we would use them and damage parachutes. Great to see some new content!

Too bad you can't get one. I think you would dig it, especially as a paratrooper. Man, Australian gun and knife laws have gone crazy in the last 30 years or so.

I have a "supposedly "a real one but has broken/missing Latch. I was always surprised how big and hefty it was for being something designed for paratroopers . I'd think light weight with more blade than handle would be the way to go. There must be some logic behind this design. 🤔

Does blade rattle and is is strong enough for stabbing things

Yes, it rattles. You can here it in the video I think. It is strong enough for stabbing and these knives were used as weapons on occasion during WW2 and some of those events are recorded in the books about the knife.

The blade has a very loose fit to make more resilient against dirt. The latch holding the blade may give and allow the blade to retract when stabbing and meeting hard resistance. The German Army used to have a modern version with a plastic handle manufactured by Eickhorn. In the 1980´s and 1990´s they were even legal to own and carry for civilians. The British made a knock off and identified the marlin spike as the part best suited for stabbing humans.
