This video has special significance for me as my grandfather was in the 6th Marine Division. The last Marine division to be formed in WW2. The only US Marine Division to never set foot in the United States. Formed on Guadalcanal and service ending/disbanded in China after the war. Encourage you to search The Sixth Marine Division Association for more information.

Thank you Mr. Filipek for telling it the way it was and not sugar coating it. My grandfather was in Europe and my father-in-law was in Asia. Both talked very little about the war and didn't want to go back to the death like you talked about. Each of them would touch on the horror, but not go into many details. I regret not recording them, but death never leaves you, you can only leave death. When you really go back and concentrate on the details, time slows down and then I go blank. I guess that's to protect yourself. Yes, there are times you see the blood squirt, victim going into shock and then others I don't. New life replaces some of the bad and the next sunny day brings new. You turned it loose and have 94 years of the past behind you. It's mind blowing to think about what you have seen, done, experienced and lived, but God has forgiven you and left you with your mind. Be proud and teach people.

Fantastic account. My father was also in the 6th Marine Division on Okinawa. He was with the 6th Engineering Battalion Charlie Company, attached to the 29th Regiment. Served 83 days there, back to Guam and sent to Tsingtao China in 1946. You couldn't get him to speak much about it. I found out why when I was able to read accounts he started writing privately around the year 2000. Horrifying. I started to piece them together and submitted them to The Striking Sixth newsletter dedicated to the 6th Marine Division and they were nice enough to print parts of it last year. Thanks for sharing your account. It inspires me to keep working on Daddy's account with hopes of having an account worthy of publishing someday in his honor.

Stop watching this and find the original video with Mr. Filipek. It is 4 years old and has a little prewar personal part at the beginning. It has not ridiculous disclaimer warning you about the upcoming interview with a man who has no remorse and will speak in detail about how he conducted himself in war THIS IS ALSO EDITED IN AREAS WHERE IT NAKES NO SENSE QND TAKES COLORFUL PIECES OUT OF THE STORY. I love this channel and believe in the mission but this is actually kinda shameful
@Bigrips94Ай бұрын
Thank you I thought this was the original video. How dare they cut out this man's story
@GetOffMyYardАй бұрын
@ Did you watch the original? The first time he tells the picture story at about the 15 min mark was cut completely and it’s the better version. He killed the guy just to get the picture after stripping him. If you watch this one it’s easy to spot the editing done to make It his story less harsh.
