I have wanted a B-3 since I was a wee lad. I grew up around aviation, my dad being an Army aviator and then airline pilot. I myself have been flying since age twelve, and now with only four years until I retire as an airline pilot, I think it's about time I finally got the jacket I've wanted all these years. Thanks for the review! I just ordered mine! :D

I bought a D-1 and honestly for the price it’s as good as an Eastman or Real McCoy. I’ve had a B-6 from Eastman and a D-1 from Real McCoy made in NZ before they moved their factory back to Japan. The quality, stitching and the use of horse hide for the binding is more accurate. I love it because I can layer it where I find the B-3 the shearing is much thicker and very warm. The D-1 is the perfect no nonsense jacket. They were mainly ground crew jackets but the pilots wore them over top of their A-2s as not as bulky as a B-3. Awesome jacket for a 1/3 of the price. Mine was made in China and was ready and shipped quickly. The Chinese are making some great reproductions to compete with the Japanese at a lower price point. Quality is excellent. I’d buy another in a second. Avi is great and very good customer service to boot. I feel like a paid reviewer but I’m not. I also like it because it’s not as flashy and the collar is not so huge. Before you buy a B-3 look at the D-1.

Yeah the D-1 is a very practical jacket, and AVI did a great job on it.

Did bomber crews during WW2 spend $600 on their jackets, or are they just more rare now?

@DerOrso10 ай бұрын
Back then they were mass-, factory made products. They had to make thousands of them in the shortest period of time. If there were any tiny blemishes or stitching errors that had to be redone leaving scarring, nobody cared. These jackets should be of the highest quality, starting by using only the best pieces of leather, without scarring or blemishes, with the pieces matched to each other that they all have the same finish and texture, because leather is a live produce and can have great variations in quality and texture, even from the same breeds of animal.
@ReflectedSimulations10 ай бұрын
@@DerOrso absolutely, none of them were perfect, wonky stitches and often mismatched hides were common
