I just got one of these at a gun show for $25. I'm a more muscular guy, and the one I got is a little snug around the chest/shoulders and the sleeves come up a tad bit shorter than I'd like, but I think it'll be a great winter coat for camping.

Great pick up. If you want you could look for a bigger size and sell the one you picked up and it might pay for the bigger one.

They know how to make them. I had a 80s French army one a while ago and it was nice too.

First of all, Your channel is great. I enjoy seeing your videos on this niche and a lot of good information. You seem to be a very knowledgeable person when it comes to these things. Do you have any information regarding US Vietnam and Korea era overcoats in OG-107? They are trenchcoats more specifically, it seems to be very difficult to find anything about them. Thanks.

Hi and thank you! I don’t know that much about them, although I’ve seen them quite a few times at the thrift store. I just never had needed one.

The back belt did sort of help align your issued belt and is said to keep everything stable.

love your videos, I have been looking at getting a ww2 1940 pattern british patterngreat coat due to my great grandfather having worn one while in normandy and at night in north africa
@derekdoeschannel5 ай бұрын
Thanks! You totally should get one. I don't really see them around here in the US, but I bet if in the UK you can find them easier!

I have my grandfather's coat just like this one. It has been hanging for decades and is in good shape. I wanted to ask how best to clean it if I don't want to take it to a dry cleaners?
@derekdoeschannelАй бұрын
maybe look for an organic dry cleaner. They use less harsh chemicals. Is the coat dirty? if not, I'd just let it hang out in the sunshine for a bit. Sunshine does wonders on old jackets.

I used to wear a Civil Defence greatcoat in England when I was 17 or 18. They were almost fashionable back then. In a counter cultural kind of way. Peacoats are brilliant. I'd buy one if I lived in a cold country, but two/three months in southwest Portugal and nine/ten months in northern Thailand suggests I don't need one. Nick

Yes, probably not the best pick up if you can only wear it maybe a few times a year.

Still trying to get over my wool allergy. Wool is the best warmth fill you can get. Makes me itchy. I bought a Cowichan sweater recently on eBay, and although I've washed it as much as I can, by hand and hung to dry, I will still itch from it.

Try Alpaca or Cashmere.
@spitfireaace5 ай бұрын
@@derekdoeschannel I like Merino wool actually. Alpaca can feel really scratchy if in a BR. I have an old Buzz B-15 with alpaca. Strangely I have an original N-1 with soft alpaca. Probably BR didn't quite make the grade for the real thing. Mostly BR is very very close though.
@derekdoeschannel5 ай бұрын
I’m guessing BR was a mix.

Are there different variants of the trench coat?

I’m sure there are, but I don’t know each one. Most military jackets/coats changed over time and needs.
