It is stinking hot where I live, but watching you shiver made me feel cold. I feel like I am watching a video game when you break out the underwater ROV, and I am making hand and head gestures everytime you try to grab something with it. I must look like I am having a fit. Haha. The stress of 'will he get it or not', is maddening. It must be a nightmare for you. Love it. Awesome vid. Take care brother.

The rusty item at 13:46 looks like a cast iron inline engine block that’s upside down. Probably a little too big for the ROV to lift though lol.

could the ROV carry a hook down there with a line on it and you could hook it and pull it up, that looked interesting to me also.
@amandahanson81883 жыл бұрын
My immediate thoughts were that it was an engine block too,upside-down with the crank journals exposed. It may have had a cracked block or bad cylinders or even a thrown rod through the side to warrant dumping it the way they did. I would love to know what it originally came from but thats the old car fanatic in me talking.

I keep telling you this and you may not remember me with so many supporters you have, I am amazed every time you recover a plate. It’s mind blowing to me that complete plates, bowls and cups are just laying out there. Am just amazed seeing them. Your so lucky to have companies that support you and your channel with such great equipment to do all these exploration. You did a great job operating the ROV in these conditions. While the ice on top of the water probably stop the waves on top, did it increase the current under the water? Am sure operating an underwater ROV is more difficult than it looks. I enjoy your channel so much.

If they had a limited pivot point around Center of the grab pass then they will allow for different size items, rubber grab pads would definitely improve the hold ability. Great idea to add that feature to your ROV! I almost cried when you said that the bottle had fallen off, but the plate certainly made up for freezing out there that day. Thanks for taking us on an underwater adventure!

You can complain/natter away to your heart's desire as long as you keep bringing us WW2 History adventures. :) Kinda like it as it adds to the adventure/entertainment. Puh, it's a good thing you didn't lose the ROV, as it sounds like it was touch and go. Yes, thanks QIC for lending that magnificent piece of technology. I have to say that one of my favourite/favorite WW2 Historical sites are the ones with the Luftwaffe connection. Couldn't believe my eyes when you lucked upon the 1941 German Luftwaffe Plate. What can I say, it's exquisite! You did an terrific job of cleaning it up. A lot of elbow grease was involved. What a beauty! Looking forward to the other secret item you found there. I am very anxious to see the video on the submarine harbour/harbor, in part because of your history as an ex submarine helmsman HH. There is a source for aluminum grappling hook/grabbers on eBay that tighten when the cord is pulled. You could use the ROV to attach the hook or grabber to heavier objects. You you pick up heavier objects than your ROV can pick up.

Another amazing adventure, HH! I don't like seeing you get that chilled but I sincerely appreciate all your efforts to show us the remnants of history all around you! Perhaps you need some better winter garments? Where I live in the US the first thing my family learned from the locals to deal with the arboreal cold winter temperatures is to dress in multiple layers. It's -17° C outside right now but with the calculated wind chill it's -27° C (about 5.5 meters per second.) I should mention that this is mild for this time of year in this region!

that's a great fun device and I'm glad to see how you've modified the grippers, they look easy to work with so more mods should be pretty easy as you see fit to make them,it seems like it definitely needs more powerful motors to recover heavy stuff though, hopefully they have upgraded stronger thrusters for the future.bundle up toasty warm and be safe out there on the ice!!!!! we have these chemical hand warmers here in the US, hopefully you can get them at a hunting or sporting gear store locally.if you're unfamiliar with them their multi layer plastic bags with a fast acting heating element of chemicals,you pop one of the small bags inside of another activating the heater for a few hours.you can put it in your gloves,pockets,socks for instant heat,they work fantastic!!!or you can get some hunting socks that are battery powered.thanks again!!!!

Good idea and try. Limitations are the strength of that little ROVs jaws and the pulling power of the fan blades. The issue I see you having is that you need to have object within jaws of grapple to disconnect after grabbing, said object and having a separate line to itself, thereby allowing you to lift free of ROV. ROV should only be a means to get whatever you're using as a means to clamp around object to the object itself, including separate rope.

Great video, many thanks! Can you, please, tell me how much time Fifish V6 will be able to work at very low temperatures (2-12 degrees Celsius, 6 degrees Celsius on average). We plan to work in coastal marine waters from boat at 10-20 meters depth, 1-2 knots speed, with episodic photo and video shooting and taking measurements with laser pointer. Going to use "Distance control" feature to keep constant distance from bottom. Manufacturer advertises "run the underwater drone up to 3 knots for up to 4 hours on one single charge". I suspect for cold waters operating time and workload outlined above operating time will decrease to as little as 1 hour. Am I right on that? Motors and Battery Maintenance Guide by Qysea explains that operator needs to soak and clean V6 with clean fresh water after every dive. We can not do this cleaning on our small boat unfortunately. So we will have to return to land base station to clean V6 with fresh water. And only after this cleaning, as Qysea documentation explains, we can recharge battery. This makes our survey very inefficient: 1 (?) hour ROV operation - run to land base station - clean - recharge - back to survey where we left - another 1 (?) hour ROV operation - .... Can you, please, correct me I am wrong with all these assumptions. Are there any workarounds to increase survey productivity (ROV operation time per day). Thanks!
@WW2HistoryHunter3 жыл бұрын
in my experience the fifish v6s will run at least 3 hours in cold water , at least. you can charge in any state you like. Soaking is to prevent thrusters from accumulating salt particles that can jam / freeze any type of underwater thruster. the uit is a impressive tool if you ask me. Thanks

Is it possible to glue on rubber pads to fit the shape of your modified grabber extension, to give yourself a firmer grip and also a better chance of recovery
@WW2HistoryHunter3 жыл бұрын
i have already used rubber glue on the pawns and it seems to work. Thanks.

I volunteer at a Ww2 museum in Scotland (Montrose Air heritage museum) and I know someone who found a RAF plate under the ground in a rubbish pit and then when he was walking back he dropped it on the concrete taxi way and it smashed into about 132 pieces. And the plate used to belong to the station commander.

I was squeezing with my legs and on the edge of my seat as it was trying so hard to grasp the plate and move it. What an awesome artifact. Would be great if you could modify the grapple to rotate. I was freezing my ass off just watching. I know you were miserable cold. I subbed.

You should also lower a basket into the water. You will save yourself some time.

Doesn't the 'grabber' rotate? Seems that if it does it might be easier to grab flatish objects if you could rotate the grabber 90°.

Well i think there will be a update so that the ROV itself can twist around its own axis. Thanks for watching

A very nice find. However, I wouldn't use such an expensive piece of equipment in ice since it's so difficult to find the hole, unless the manufacturer would reimburse you for the loss.
@WW2HistoryHunter3 жыл бұрын
Well think of it this way , all i have to do is to reel it in under the ice and home it comes :) Thanks Gene :)

Hi. Great video. One suggestion for your next underwater adventure. Have you ever thought of using a mesh bag (similar to a fishing net) to gather and haul to the surface using muscle power rather than battery power? Some kind of webbed carrying sack, tied with paracord, sitting on the sea floor. As you collect your treasures into the weighted bag, you can haul to the surface many items rather than one item at a time. This method was, or is, used by deep sea treasure hunters to maximize time and effort in the water allowing for the use of arm strength to bring multiple items to the surface. In a similar vain, have you considered a tethered grappling hook, dropped into place by your ROV/UAV? It is easy for me to "armchair quarterback", sitting indoors with a hot cup of coffee and dry socks, but I have had the occasion to go ice fishing and know what it is like to have wet hands at -10C or -20C. These suggestions may be too ambitious and too cumbersome, but they are food for thought. Good luck on your next adventure.

Well one good thing with ceramics is that they seem to last forever. Wait it is made of rocks so that could be why we still have mountains millions of years old :) Thanks.

You should invest in some cold weather divers gloves to help you. Thankfully your great supporter allowed you to get a heater to help. Am sure being on the coast in Europe it’s really cold in the winter time. Cold weather gear is going to be your best friend on days like this.

I looked at the temperature on your monitor and it read 4c. if you were right about the temperature of the air, it was warmer underwater! Congratulations on the bowl!

You are correct and it was around - 7 dgr C in the air if i remember correct.
