@@WW2HistoryHunter You need to get a small neodymium magnet and attach to the grabber arm. Will make the compass useless, but will allow you to go trawling for stuff. Bigger magnet with an attached line to drag back would also work, though with that you would be limited unless you attached a float.
@harrytrafalgar64833 жыл бұрын
Nice work. Couldn’t you drill holes in a strong bucket, weight it down, then drop it straight down to the to rest on the sea floor. Then the RUV could dump the finds into the bucket, and you could safely pull up the bucket with the finds.

Well done. The only thing I could hear in my head was, "Scotty I need more power!!!" The Fifish doesn't have the thruster power for heavy objects plus the dynamic drag. We will talk later. German U Boats have always fascinated the hell out of me. I grew up around Chicago and I have seen and been in the Museum of Science and Industry U-505 exhibits more than a 100 times. It used to sit outside on Lake Michigan shore and now the stunning indoor exhibit it has now. I guess what amazes me most is the technology and construction of such an amazing machine in the 1930s and ear;y 40s. It just doesn't seem possible that this was something that could be designed and built back then and such a short amount of time. Only someone with a mechanical mind and aptitude would appreciate this when seeing one of these things, its more than just a war machine, even though that was its purpose. The Chicago U Boat is probably the only one in the world in this good of shape and could probably be relaunched and used. It is THAT good.

Interesting to hear your were a Sonar operator on a U Boat. My wife's Grandfather was a Asdic (Sonar) operator on HMS Keats (K482) during WW2 which was accredited with sinking U-1172 & U-285. He spoke of the duels with the U boats playing cat and mouse waiting hours / days for the U Boats to break cover to try and escape. When Germany surrendered he shared that he went with the ship to one of the U Boat pens to escort 3 surrendered U Boats and their crews to British waters. As his role was no longer required he was part of the armed guard detail sent onboard one of the U Boats to ensure the crew did not scuttle the vessel. He managed to get some small souvenirs from the crew including a typewriter! Keep up the great work.

I have read and studied for 20 + years about the Kreigsmarine and Atlantik Schlact during WWII and this adventure of yours shows the practical realities of hunting for WWII artifacts with ROVs. You had me all tense up trying to get that plate. What a disappointment on the plate but you learned a lot on operating the ROV to retrieve items. Your hand have to be freezing pulling wet items out of harbor. Did the subs you were on use some of the old U boat bases? I think I figured out how so many plates are being found at these locations. The cooks weren’t very good so the soldiers threw out their plates with the food. lol

Wow great place and to have the photos of the u boats there your imagination brings a perspective on the whole video I bet that's frustrating to Manoeuvre in the ROV with all the silt being stured up but well worth trying to recover items you never no what will come up 😎 I hope that you find some fine items in the future you put so much into what you do and I love to see the Holly Madonna with your excitement stay safe my friend and will look forward to your next video 👍👍👍👍👍
