Surprisingly this is the first Rumble where someone won from the Number 30 spot. Despite it being the best number to enter the match at it took practically 20 years for someone to win from that position surprisingly. Though if anyone was going to do it, I'm glad it was The Undertaker.

IMO Umaga deserved to win the WWE Championship - he was on a monster run throughout 2006 and a run with the WWE title seemed inevitable. That is until he hit a roadblock called Super Cena (since creative needed monster heels for him to slay) and he never sniffed the main event again.

He definitely had the talent, but given his personal life, I would not be surprised if he was denied the world title for the same reason Scott Hall was...couldn't be counted on to be a long term champ. I kinda disagree on the non star studded part. On paper, if you just go over the names in the Rumble, it actually is loaded with legends. Ric Flair, Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, CM Punk, Kane, RVD, The Hardy Boyz, Edge, Randy Orton, Chris Benoit (if you keep the value his name had before you know what), and Booker T

I think the only argument you can make is that many of these names, who are highly regarded NOW, weren’t in great spots when this rumble happened. Many like RVD, Flair, Hardys, Kane, etc were either stuck in the mid-card or were in less relevant storylines.

The reason why there was no build for the Armageddon ladder match is because it only became a four team ladder match ON THE NIGHT! I had no idea about the Blue Bloods reunion!? Then again, I wasn't really following the product at the time. It wasn't until five years later that I started watching full-time again. I didn't stop liking wrestling; it's just that my interest was in old-school more than the contemporary product. So most of the Ruthless Aggression era is a blur to me. That, and I was busy with that newfangled KZbin. I was a high school senior at this time.

I started watching wrestling in late 2005. Smackdown had moved to Fridays and Eddie was still with us. So this PPV is still really part of my early my wrestling fandom. I have a special place in my heart for 05-07. I vividly remember refreshing WWE's website for the results because I wanted to know what happened. We didn't buy every PPV. We basically got Wrestlemania and Summerslam every year and a third one me and my brother could beg our parents to get. I recently was rewatching Raws and Smackdowns from this era for a bit of nostalgia. I had absolutely no recollection of the Kevin Federline stuff. Also you said Coachman was Bischoff's assistant wasn't he gone by this point or are you just saying that.

Happy 2025 to all. The last moments of that Royal Rumble match are definitely among the greatest of all time for its history. I always remember Regal saying "Umainga!" at WM 24. 🤣

I have fond memories of this PPV just because of the context around how I watched it. It was at my friend Brandale's house and my other friend Brendan went with me and we all slept over there and watched the PPV. It was really a nice time

That was my favorite one as a kid. Especially the John Cena Umaga match, one of the rare times we got Mr. Kennedy in a world championship match, the final WWE PPV with Test, and the final two in the Royal Rumble match with Shawn Michaels and Undertaker. Plus the theme song for this show was Drones by Rise Against.

Love me some Rise Against. They’re one of my favorites. Their songs legit would work as awesome anime openings.

28:37 Taker was even in the tag match that led to Degeneration X forming in the first place. Triple H and Michaels vs. Taker and Mankind on Raw.

Thank you Brian for bleeping out that Joey Mercury injury; it damn near traumatized me as a kid

I remember watching this with my grandad. We would rent this from Blockbuster, which was our usual routine, and I remember loving this Royal Rumble, especially the Cena/Umaga Last Man Standing Match and the Rumble match itself. That ending with Michaels and Undertaker was awesome, a little snippet of what to come a couple years later with their Mania matches.

I remember watching the Umaga vs Cena match on KZbin when I was just starting watching wrestling and it was one of the best matches I saw when I was a kid. One of my favorite Cena matches of all time

This was the first WrestleMania season I watched As a kid. This rumble, and WrestleMania 23 hold a special place in my heart. It might be a little bit of nostalgia but even when I've rewatched it,.I feel like it is one of the better WrestleMania's.

I just watched an interview with Mike Chioda talking about his thoughts on refereeing this Cena vs Umaga match. He said that Cena really made Umaga pass out at the end with that choke on him.

I remember this PPV. I was in the building that night. My first live royal rumble. It wasn’t the greatest royal rumble that year but yes that last man standing match was the highlight of the night! We were on the hardcam side. So never saw us on tv lol! But a good time for the most part.

Wild story about test at this time . He was buddies with a bunch of lacrosse guys from his home town of Whitby Ontario. He was playing in a pick up game and straight up kicked a guy in the ribs when he was in the ground. Needless to say he wasn’t involved back after that.
