For anyone that hasn't seen the Natural Disasters win the tag titles; it was an amazing finish. Typhoon has the match won, then needlessly tags in Earthquake to get the pin. I have to imagine it was to show respect for Earthquake having been so over with the crowd and being a top heel for so long. The look on Earthquakes face when they gave him the gold was priceless, you could tell he was holding back tears. RIP John Tenta.

I never fucking understood why Hacksaw was so popular and so fucking over, I couldn't stand him. He was one of the most annoying guys in the business, and when he had the Mic in his hand it meant it was time for a snack or a bathroom break. Why was he so over? Was he related to someone at corporate, or did he catch Vince having sex with a hooker and was just blackmailing him? The guy had no talent, on the mic or in the ring. Sure, he had charisma and was always energetic and worked the crowd, but I have gone back and watched a bunch of his matches just to see, and he was just garbage in the ring. His punches and kicks were some of the fakest and worst looking on the roster, and the rest of his offense was sooooo painfully boring and looked terrible, plus his selling was some of the worst I've ever seen. I'm sure I'm going to get crucified for this because for some reason wrestling fans fucking love him and a lot of people consider him a legend and one of the greats, but I just don't see it and I personally think there were dozens of better more deserving guys during his era, yet he was always on TV and PPVs and would always get a massive pop as he stumbled to the ring bellowing "Hooo" and waving a God damn piece of lumber from home depot. I may be the minority here and will probably get a lot of hate from all the Dugganites, but I'm standing my ground and am going to double down here; Hacksaw Jim Duggan was a shitty wrestler and doesn't deserve to be so revered nowadays and treated like an all time great, he on over rated gimmick who should have never made it past the lower mid card as a jobber for other better wrestlers to beat on.

SinCity Sinner Duggan was over because he laid on the patriotism gimmick really thick. In the 80's - early 90's Cold War climate, patriotism for 'Murica was the easiest way to get over. Cunt Hogan used it to get huge face heat too. Then it started getting tired when Hogan left and Lex Luger was given the stars-and-stripes gimmick. Then there was The Patriot, whom people cared so little about that he barely got a push even during Bret Hart's pro-Canada/anti-America heel turn. And by the time Kurt Angle arrived in wrestling, being an unabashed patriot was guaranteed heel heat because it was just overused by then.

Ha, that Hawk and Animal match at times reminded me so much of the Smackdown video games. That mutual clothesline followed by the little spazzout twitch on the ground a whole second later... climbing to the top of the turnbuckle and just stepping off once he cancels his flying manoeuvre... climbing through the ropes to the ring apron the second his partner gets the three count... it's like Smackdown AI brought to life!

@Gary Hall Nick and Verne were best friends. Nick made Verne a lot of money working opposite each other. Verne could bank on Nick to be a draw as his champion and could make a young talent even when not putting them over. He did it with Curt Hennig, and would make Greg Gagne look better than he really was. That's the nature of wrestling back then.

That sort of thing was actually pretty common back in the 70s and 80s. The guys took the industry so much more seriously, and many of the top guys had massive egos… they believed their own hype and took “protecting their character” very seriously, to the point where they wouldn’t agree to lose to younger guys who they didn’t see “on their level” yet. Or they may have had some personal issue.

Has there ever been a reason given as to why the Bret Hart vs. Ric Flair title change never aired on TV? I know it made it into one of those "Best-of" video's, but why the hell wasn't it put on TV? I was in that crowd, seated with my family 2 rows above the hard camera, and that place went MENTAL when Bret won, no need to feed in crowd noise in post-production. No one in the crowd expected a title change. Title changes usually only happened in more famous cities, like LA, New York, Toronto, etc. But Saskatoon? The sleepy city of 150,000 people at the time with no claims to fame? No, a title change would never happen there.... HOLY SHIT BRET WON THE TITLE!!

CTWraith I had always assumed it was a contract thing. I didn't see Flair in WWF very much at all afterwards, so I had just assumed he dropped the belt to Bret right before his contract expired and he went back to WCW. But it had to be done relatively quickly and to someone they felt had enough heat for a title run and dropping it to Canadian face Bret at a Canadian house show would be the best option and guarantee a massive pop.
@timmutohfan
@timmutohfan 6 жыл бұрын
there are lots of things going around why it never aired. 1. flair had been potatoed by warrior and had a severe inner ear injury and couldn't work very much. 2. flair was already on his way out to go back to wcw and vince wanted to limit his exposure on wwf tv as the world champion 3. vince had serious buyer's remorse over taking in flair and considered him and his run a massive failure. stories of him blowing up at him and savage for stinking up a match were pretty common, and he blamed flair not savage. i believe 3. i love flair, but his run in the wwf wasn't what vince had hoped it would have been. not entirely sure what his expectations were...

The whole arena set up for this looks really awesome. I have always thought that open air Pay Per Views on the daytime were a bad idea because they couldn't get the atmosphere correct in the sunlight, especially for wrestler entrances because all the lights and pyro looks 1,000 times better in a closed arena where they can cut the lights and make it pitch black, then they can put on kickass light and pyro displays throughout the show, but this whole set up looked really fucking good. It might just be because Wembley stadium is one of the most iconic and beautiful buildings in the world, but the WWF went above and beyond to create an atmosphere worthy for Wembley stadium. The hard cam shots look really crisp with the blue summerslam aprons and the fucking massive sea of people they are able to get in the shots. It looks amazing seeing the wrestlers running and bumping around the ring with the sea of people on their feet going crazy, especially because the crowd seems to go on forever. During the typical shows in an enclosed arena the camera inevitably picks up the upper deck and sometimes even the rafters of a place, making it feel almost claustrophobic, but here even the wide shots can't even pick up the top rows of people, so what we are left with are some amazing shots of row after row of thousands of rabid fans. The first time I noticed and it really caught my eye was during L.O.D. Vs. Dibiase and I.R.S. match. After Animal got tagged in he started running off the ropes and then ducked both Dibiase and IRS and then caught them with a double clothesline which was just fucking beautiful with the camera angle and all the fans on their feet going crazy. Even non wrestling fans have to admire the pageantry set up for this show, and it looked like it would have been an absolute fucking blast to be there. Even the most cynical and miserable person imaginable would have been on their feet and caught up in the moment with thousands and thousands of other people on their feet and blowing the invisible roof off of Wembley. I am actually jealous, lol. Yes I said I was jealous of people at a show decades ago, but so what, it looked like it would have been one of the greatest days of a lot of people's lives, lol. I love the OSW channel, it deserves to have millions of subs and is definitely one of the best wrestling KZbin channels. Keep up the good work lads, you have a big fan and supporter her in Las Vegas.

41:08 television back then was essentially a commercial for the house shows, which were the big source of income. SNME were like today’s B-PPVs. Secondary title changes were used to boost attendance and promote the notion that anything could happen at house shows. Bret won the WWF title at a house show later in ‘92
