I’m currently listening to an episode of Grilling JR about the career of Lex Luger in the WWF. Around 50 minutes in I learned that Borga (former Finnish member of parliament) Was let go from WWF for apparently having Schutzstaffel related tattoos. This is especially ironic given the fact that when he was recruited. One of things that stood out; other than his physique. Was that creative apparently thought that he “looked like a Nazi” and that his look would contrast well with Luger’s “All American Gimmick” Recruited for looking like a Nazi - Fired for being an actual Nazi. Only in Pro wrestling 😂

I don't think you guys mentioned it, but in his book, Bret says that a lot of the "officials" that were trying to pry him off of Jerry Lawler were actually subtly pushing him down and back, making the sharpshooter hold hurt more! Jerry wasn't too popular with the guys in those days, so this was a little rib/punishment for him. That might explain why it went on for so long...they were having too much fun torturing Jerry Lawler! Bret also alleges that Lawler couldn't walk for a good long time after being in that hold for so long!
@Pineappolis Жыл бұрын
Like, I know there's no accounting for taste but, seriously, if barely anyone at the company liked the guy, I'm _utterly_ baffled as to how he got so much work with them. He couldn't wrestle to save his life and while, in isolation, some of his lines could be funny, about 90% of the time it always felt to me like he'd just memorised a the contents joke book and would pull out some vaguely on the theme of what was going on whether or not it remotely fit the specifics so, for every time he got a laugh out of me, there'd be at least ten times I'd go, "...yeah, I mean I can't say it wasn't _technically_ a joke." By the by, I've been watching OSW in a bizarre order so I've never seen a Maffew episode with Lawler present but I'm given to understand he's made pretty much the _exact_ same point about the joke book I've been making since I first had to listen to the guy (Lawler, not Maffew), which I'm looking forward to actually hearing some day.

After reading Bret's book (apparently) Lawler completely potatoed Bret with the crutch when Bret has Doink in the Sharpshooter. The crutch wasn't gimmicked so it was just a full on whack with a metal crutch. When Bret has Lawler in the Sharpshooter at the end, he held it much longer and more viciously than he was supposed to, but this was Lawler receiving his "receipt".

Jorge Gonzalez was someone who did not take to wrestling naturally, wasn't train d properly and was very frightened of actually hurting people, so unlike a piece of shit like Seth Rollins who can't work either, he was overly cautious and didn't break anyone's nose or retire a legend with a dangerous and fake looking spot. If Jorge lifted a guy up for a full on chokeslam, he is going to be 7 ft in the air and any slip or over rotation is going to break your neck. Could never work out why Borga was supposed to be a heel-Comes from Finland, a peaceful country who has no beef with anybody. Why wasn't he billed as Russian or Serbian since he looked & spoke like it? Did vignettes talking about how horrible Americans were for polluting rivers & streams, how dirty the streets were with people throwing garbage on the floor, how horrible the US ghettos were etc & how nice & clean Finland is-Lex's response was not to defend the US, but to say America, love it or leave it. Pretty sure the reasoning was "Well, the Cold War is over. We can't do the evil Soviet heel anymore. That is awesome that Bruce didn't know he was going to get water dumped on him and that it was all Owen's rib. I love it!

Radio WWF was on Royal Rumble 94 cause Monsoon and JR called Razor vs IRS IC Title match. But you couldnt get the station anywhere but on a US Army base so its was probably their swan song

WE'RE BACK BEBEH! 16th June SONY copyright struck this for AIT80s (which we have a licence for!) and 2.5 weeks later we were able to get it reinstated. On the 4th of July no less! Can't keep a good Lex down :D This is why the original comment section was deleted. Boo KZbin!

Amazing you will keep in this era. But after that, you should do a story arc of...... 97 All the WWF PPVs between Summerslam 97 and Survivor Series 97 Including The Patriot, the first Hell in a Cell between HBK and Taker, midgets and DOA vs Los Boricuas THE GREATEST GANG FEUD EVER alongside other amazing stuff

giggalo Jimmy was the man that dance was legendary

I can see him being popular ironically. Yes, he's got that little gyrating dance, but he doesn't have the physique to be convincingly sexy. He's no Rick Rude. He looks more like Louis CK if he had been a 70's pornstar. Also, is Tom Prichard related to "Brother Love" Bruce Prichard? I definitely see a resemblance. EDIT - Just Googled it, and Brother Love is indeed Tom's literal brother.
