I went to Wrestlemania IV with my mom and my sister when I was 9 years old. It was the best day of my life up until that point. Ha ha! We sat on the aisle of the entrance ramp. If you were in the ring and looking at the backstage area, we were on the left side about halfway up. I touched Smash on the shoulder during Demolition’s entrance.

Dude! That's so rad! Ive been a fan my whole life and NEVER gotten to see a WWE live event. People are really hard on this Mania, but I always dug this one. One thing I noticed upon rewatching is that there's some issue with the aisle/walkway. Like when the stairs ended and there was just a landing, there was obviously a gap or something in the floor. Numerous guys stumble/trip over it. Mr. Perfect did and even laughed at himself. But yeah, that's awesome that you got to go!!👍👍

I’m aware 1993 was the first year ‘King of the Ring’ became a PPV (until 2002). I still would have loved seeing Bret Hart have Hulk Hogan in the Sharpshooter (as I wouldn’t be surprised if Bret Hart really hates Hulk Hogan). The crowd would definitely be cheering Bret Hart, and booing Hulk Hogan (exactly what fans wish they saw at WrestleMania IX). It’s definitely good that the 1991 Royal Rumble was the last Royal Rumble that Hulk Hogan won. Sorry about the length of my comment, but I did want to post my awareness of the ‘golden’ era of the WWF (and, looking back, times it was now good Hulk Hogan lost) [and when you mentioned Ric Flair, the Undertaker and Bret Hart].

I don't care how bad this one is looking back. I was 8 when this came out and I loved Macho Man. 8 year old me thought that Macho Man was doomed having to fight every round and considered One Man Gang as super dangerous. Leading up to this One Man Gang had been doing squashes on Superstars. At least now I can still smile cause I love Macho Man and even Hogan being in the ring does not completely ruin it for me. Just a quick note: the world record for what Dino Bravo attempted (called a raw bench press) is somewhere around 770 lbs at the moment. The 1000+ lbs V1 notes is with the aid of a bench shirt (called an equipped bench press), which you may notice aids the lift CONSIDERABLY. This summer there was a legitimate attempt at an 800 lbs raw bench press, but the bar was misloaded and the guy was injured in the attempt.

There's actually a really good reason why bob eucker looked so bad here. He'd had a major heart attack on the set of Mr, Belvedere during the filming of season 3 in the winter of '87, he missed several episodes but returned a few weeks later. If you go back and watch the episodes that were filmed after he came back you can clearly see that they're using pancake make up and really flat lighting to hide just how bright red his complexion is.

Matilda is no dummy. She knew not to bother with Heenan. One, he had a dog-catchers suit on. Two, he wasn't managing. He was in the match. So there was no reason for her to attack him. She made her presence felt at the beginning, but at the end there was no need. On the other hand, there are 2 videos on here of managers interfering and costing the Bulldogs. One where Johnny Valient trips Davey, and one where Jimmy Hart hits Dynamite with his megaphone. In these cases, Matilda went right after them. She bit Johnny V's foot, and she grabbed Hart's megaphone.

I believe the reason that Hogan walloped DiBiase with a chair in the main event was as payback for DiBiase cracking Hogan on the back with a chair during Hogan's match against Andre. Every review I've ever read about WrestleMania IV complains about this "dastardly act" by Hogan, but it makes perfect sense really, because he gave DiBiase a taste of his own medicine. ...and this is probably the only time I'll defend something Hogan did in the ring that nobody else liked. :)

It makes sense on a rational level, but it does not make sense with a true baby face. If it had been a retaliation shot for something that had happened in the moment it would be easier to pass off. But the real good guys do not lower themselves to do things like that. Like others have said before it would have worked better if Hulk had chased off Andre and we got a clean finish and a straight celebration. Even if Hulk sat at ringside for 5 minutes and then chased him the payoff would have been better.

Weird hearing some of the criticisms. As a Macho Man fan, to me this is the best Wrestlemania of all time, and it’s not even close. The tournament idea felt new and fantastic, and I felt like you guys no selling how awesome that was is rather disappointing. The drama of the night was unmatched at that point in history. This show’s format and roster was an incredible introduction to the WWF for new fans of the era.

@@OSW ​So here’s the thing… and let me preface this by saying… I just was recommended your channel by a colleague, it’s fantastic, and I’m binging much of it while I work. So regardless of what I say below, please realize I think you guys do a great job. So it really hasn’t been all that long since I’ve seen this one. I can say my counterpoint is that I’d argue it doesn’t have to “hold up” by todays or the attitude era’s standards… it was working on a completely, completely different standard …and set of rules. Now whether you guys appreciate that standard, or agree that is the proper lens through which to view it; that obviously would affect your view of this. The crowd never seemed even remotely dead to me, except during the Jake / Rude match. It just didn’t seem like they were mic’d up. No emphasis was placed on the crowd noise. Its background, and just there because the crowd is there. Most of the fans I know aren’t particularly focused on that in 1987, we don’t care what the crowd is doing and I think the production reflects that. We care what the greatest announce Duo of all time is saying, and what’s happening in the ring. In the attitude era the fans reactions became something people dissected. Mic’d up crowds, fans with signs, fans hijacking matches. In 1987 the crowd was just there. The whole thing is, in the first few wrestlemanias, I’d never even review based on “dissecting match quality” or “booking.” The matches each tell a story within the larger “glitz and glamour” product of the times. And it’s a very 80’s product. The story of the night is the million dollar man trying to buy the tournament, and the macho man as underdog running the gauntlet, having to wrestle what was perceived as monsters in every round, and defying the odds, until he gets to the last match fair and square against the man who is the opposite, who bought his way there. And then who comes in to make sure the villain doesn’t win? Macho’s “buddy” the hulkster, who had been cheated by the villains earlier in the night. Creating one of the greatest teams in wrestling history. Not “Hogan won’t leave the ring,” but this is AMAZING seeing these two like this, as we fade to black. None of the move by move in These matches matter. It’s fun to review them this way now, but It was purely, 100% the stories being told by the unparalleled roster of larger than life superstars. And I’d argue one of the best rosters ever just because of the personalities. This is how I and I’d say most kids of the American 80’s viewed these guys. The Hammer falling down the way he did repeatedly wasn’t lazy and annoying.. it was a literal brick wall of a man, and that was one of his character attributes. Like one of the novelty characters in Mike Tyson’s punch out falling to the mat his own distinct way. The snake guy… the guy who cuts your hair if you lose, every one of these guys was more about the presence, style, and mannerisms than anything else. And that rocked. He’s not Greg valentine the “worker.” He’s a larger than life superstar, who literally takes on the attributes of a human hammer. He’s hard to beat because he is a hammer. He falls like a hammer. Bob Uecker? In America at that time he was beloved. Vanna White? She was literally one of the biggest stars in the country at that time. That was huge that she was on there. So does it hold up? From the way I grew up, it more than holds up, because it was a different type of product, where this type of storytelling was actually far more fun to watch than one where we analyze the matches move by move. I myself never even began to look at wrestling like that until AFTER Hogan left, and the whole company changed with the rise of Bret and his contemporaries. And even then, I never began looking at the earlier product through that new lens. So to many it holds up Big time, if you love larger than life characters, great commentary, and “the hero’s journey.”

I get it! I know this one was hated but the tournament made it my favorite of all time. The idea of Macho surviving brutal matches and scratching his way into the final was terrific as a kid. I love the whole elimination tournament concept so this WM really worked for me.

WM4 was the very first wrestling tape I ever rented. I was ten years old, was told I'd have the house to myself, and given the choice of what to rent. I went for WM4 because it was TWO tapes! Twice the wrestling! How could I go wrong? It's a small miracle that I continued to be a wrestling fan after that.

Okay....She was a mascot of a face team in a time period when they would have only be facing heel teams with heel managers. You're not too clear on what your point is supposed to be. I think back in the 70s and 80s an outfit like that of Demolition was more associated with rock bands like Judas Priest or maybe outlaws like Zed's gang in "Police Academy". So that's why Demolition worked so well.
