Good explanation of the histogram. Having aimed for 100%, I now see the error of my ways. Now I need to restack my images of Saturn I took last week and have another go!

Very good presentation of a little understood topic. At least for the tyro like myself. Bit depth and percent histogram are very useful topics for capture and to understand number crunching say to doing pixel math.

A great help - what do you do with the gamma? Just leave it be at 50 or zero it out?

In FireCapture you can set it to 50 (same as no gamma) or uncheck the checkbox to not use gamma.

will hot pixels cause any problems?

One nice thing about planetary imaging is that you don't need an autoguider. The planet drifts around on the screen during capture and every part of the planet image is seen by good pixels. Any effect of the bad pixels is lost during stacking.
