WWI German belt buckle and ID tag restoration. I found this old German buckle and identification tag of a German soldier in the woods with a metal detector. I was searching for artifacts in a place where there was once a military camp. I decided to restore the buckle. I removed the rust and dirt. I left the original patina. I hope you liked my restoration.

That's amazing. These objects just existed so much time and now they are in hands of the master who decided to restore them, give them the new life. I respect this

Вісь для вилки робив зі сталевої ручки пластикового відра. Там якраз закінчення у вигляді півкулі. Ще з арматури робив натяжку, насверлював, брав шарик з підшипника і вдаряв, получалась півкругла виямка. За допомогою цього інструменту потім формував півкулю. Накладку перед пайкою, місце пайки змазую паяльною кислотою, тоді краще паяється і припой втоплюється, виходить як на оригіналі. А так він збирається в кульку.

I liked the one on the left only because being a veteran it was ingrained into me and all veterans,”if it moves salute it; if it doesn’t polish it “. I’m sure the person it was issued to spent time doing that.

I like the both; each for their own reasons. I was surprised by the belt. At first I thought it was a piece of metal - part of the buckle! You must really know your military history....

The one on the right. It retains some age and patina. The other looks as issued. Both are great, though, excellent examples 😊

Could you please explain how and what you did with the identification tag?

I washed the tag and then waxed the candle. The soot from the candle showed the text, and the wax preserves the zinc.

I admit that I didn't at all appreciate the first scene where we see a treaty with casualness and disrespect, a bunch of belt buckles. It is important to remember that each curl is all that remains of a poor guy and perhaps my maternal grandfather who died on the Eastern Front in 1917!

Навіть не знаю. З одного боку (буквально) одна виглядає як нова, така як має бути, а інша виглядає більш автентично - така, як вона була більшість часу. Навіть важко сказати яка краще, але отак, на перший погляд, я б обрав праву (потерту), якось ця патина та затертості додають історії, видно що це не репліка
