very cool. It must give you that sinking feeling in your stomach when flying

It must be a wonderful experience to fly like this! The only cons was the amount of fps displayed (50)

That looks awesome! Would be awesome to add some artificial "shake" on bullet hits to your airplane.

just add a buttkicker to it for that vibrational force-feedback

Perhaps a simple transducer on the back/underside of the seat would suffice?

Looks awesome! I have a 4DOF system I built and I'm debating whether I want to upgrade to 6DOF. I fly mainly helicopters. Does your platform give you a sense of taking off and 'floating' in hover?

I am very interested if you can feel the plane slipping. This rig seems to simulate the G forces you would feel. I'm wondering if you can keep the plan coordinated by just the feel of the motion rig (without looking at the slip indicator to "step on the ball")?
@departedreality2 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting question. The cueing software FlyPT can be tuned so that the roll angle is countered by lateral acceleration, making the rig flat in a coordinated turn. The difference from a real aircraft is that the acceleration you feel pushing you down would still be limited to 1G. I'm not a pilot, but I assume higher accelerations make it easier to feel slip/skid. Hope this answers your question!
@AddictedToNyborg2 жыл бұрын
@@departedreality yes, this answers it perfectly! So you can feel when the turn is uncoordinated? that's incredible! I'm so stoked, I'm definitely going to be setting one of these up once I get my own place next year.

This is a super cool question. This is one area where I have thought having motion would actually help me fly better in addition to being immersive. Having to watch the ball is a bit much.
@rsilvers1294 ай бұрын
@@departedreality It's not limited to one G because if the platform drops at an extra 1G, then you feel 2Gs. You can use a washout filter to transition within the available range of motion.

Almost the same setup as yours. Do you also have the problem seeing the border of the rendered game image at extreme motion angles in IL-2? I think it is how the ovrmc works with rotating the image...
@departedreality2 жыл бұрын
I haven't noticed this before but I'll look the next time I play IL-2. There's a new project for OpenXR motion compensation (OXRMC) that I've been using lately instead of OVRMC. It's worth checking out! github.com/BuzzteeBear/OpenXR-MotionCompensation
@montanazh2 жыл бұрын
That would be great! I have also the G2 with frankendov mod. If you can't see the borders, I have to switch to OXRMC. Thanks anyway for that info. All that stuff should enhance the immersion but if I can see the frame border it breaks the immersion completely for me.
@departedreality2 жыл бұрын
I also printed one of those frankenfov faceplates! I'm wondering if you're seeing the border because of motion reprojection is enabled and framerates are low. Is the border visible for a split second? The great thing about OXRMC on WMR headsets is it bypasses SteamVR completely which greatly improves performance. You do need to use OpenComposite for most games to enable OpenXR as a lot of games are OpenVR only
@montanazh2 жыл бұрын
No, motion reprojection is disabled and no performance issues. At extrem bank angles and if I'm looking in this direction it is like I see the game through a big window and I can see the border and the black background. It stays there till I level the plane and look away. The same problem occures with all meta headsets but thats known (dschadu mention this on his ovrmc website). Tried everything, no chance. I guess it's because of the wmr to steamvr addon which blocks ovrmc to attach the render frame to the plane instead of the gameworld. With openxr I could bypass it but there are many downsides comming with it...
