Good video except for when you stopped moving the pieces to match your narration. You started going too fast in calling out positions and it became difficult to follow along. Most of us that would benefit from this video just can't think that fast when hearing chess notation rattled off like that without the visual aid.

It's good practice to visualize. It'll probably hurt your head at first, but just really force yourself to do it! You'll get better I promise

the title is wrongly named. i was hoping to learn the various geomatarical tricks hidden in the chessboard
@InfiniteUniverse886 жыл бұрын
The geometry of white's active pieces is important. So is determining the vulnerability of black's most valuable pieces. Namely, the hanging queen and unprotected king.
@neilsmith44644 жыл бұрын
I agree that the title is misleading. This video is basically an analysis of one particular game. Doesn't fit the theme of the playlist in my opinion. And the presentation was poor.

you could do with showing the moves your rapidly going through, its hard to keep up when you are learning e.g. 12:23 to 12:48

I am a really aggressive and tactical chess player. I sadly admit I would have never thought rook takes pawn on d6 was the best move because I would have thought there was going to be a line for black where he would be up through any of the possible lines. I personally prefer sacrificing pieces for positional play because the opposing player is more likely to take and you can decide what you are going to do based on how black defends. I played this in one of my games where I took the h1 pawn with my bishop while my opponent took since he was castled on the king side opening him up. That eventually led to checkmate even though he was up in material and that is what makes chess so fun.
@lepredator1897 жыл бұрын
Anton Sebastian, saying you are an aggressive tactical player really reveals that you're a weak player.

That is one of the best tactical mates ever. What calculation by Korchnoi! And you were spot on how he found the winning line, blacks undefended Queen. Thanks for the video and analysis.

The question is how to work this out without running out of time
@tdekoekkoek6 жыл бұрын
you say that none of the other moves other than Qd2 lead to anything. This is not true. White gets a strong attack after Nb5+ which should be evaluated. Some lines lead to mate, although it would need thorough calculation to see if that plan works. And don't forget that even winning the queen, black gets a Rook and a Night as compensation, so Nb5 might be a stronger options
@meteor1097 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. Very helpful. Much easier to follow a line by watching the pieces move, instead of listening to a rapid-fire string of notations.

Very instructive! Suggestion: at 12:15 on studying options after Qc5+ that would be nice to 'see' the options (Kb6 or Kc7) on the board. Not always easy to follow only verbally

Another key observation Korchnoi made the ability to use knight on f to check the king on c6 and e6. He certainly determined this key factor before sacking the rook. One way to think of this problem is that there were four active pieces, a vulnerable king, and a hanging queen.
@piebsa65978 жыл бұрын
2:52 I'd take my queen to d3 so if he tries to take my night I have protection. But also, in my next move I can take d6 with my queen, and if the black king decides to take my queen, I have my tower that makes checkmate (resulting that the black king is unable to take my queen)

I would've still made my first move as queens knight to D5. Why?? Because the lane that is open for blacks Q is open to move to D2 to place white in Check, but your not trading pieces especially with loosing your Rook. As you showed there are many different ways to move, but I would like to see this first move that I suggested played out full to see why it wasn't considered the best move. Great instructions thou and nice video.
@jameshilger18187 жыл бұрын
At around the 5:00 mark. Queen to D2 then knight to D5 check is the move. Queen takes Queen.
@matzleeach6 жыл бұрын
Good overall video. When looking for good moves, first you must look at your opponents plans and moves first, before considering your own moves. Also maybe in future videos of this nature to add both side King safety, pieces mobility/activity/time, pawn structure, space advantage and force (material in pacific location) to search for the imbalances in the position. You vaguely pointed out undefended pieces "Black Queen," but didn't touch on scanning the board for undefended pieces. Often beginners chess players have no clue how to evaluated a position to find such good tactical moves. In my opinion, if those concepts are taught, solving positions or find such moves become much easier.

In fact at 10:57 Qd2 is best move this move immidiately wins the black queen.. after Qd2 there's no way of black's queen escaping.. for example.. iof Qa4 then we know that we can take it with knight if Qb6 or Qa6 then we capture with the rook.. if Qc7 then Nd5 forks the king and the queen.. if Qd8 we take with the rook. If he decide to stay there then Nd5 discover attack to queen and check to king.. the only best move for black is immidiately after Qd2 to play something like Kf8 and then would be no discover attack to queen with check on king because Nd5 isn't check.. but most probably if our opponent isn't aware of this threat then he would fail.

I seriously looked at 1. Rxd6, but couldn't see it through to checkmate. I also saw black replying with Ng4, followed by Bh6, winning my queen. 2. Qg5 Bf6 scared me off too. I also looked at 1. Qd2, but black can just play Rd8 or Qc7. I did not connect the two moves (1. Rxd6 and 2. Qd2ch) and figure out the winning combo though. That was a Master level sacrifice. My tactics and board memory just aren't that good yet, to visualize all of the possible variations in my head. Like you said, the king didn't have to take the rook. That just left too many possibilities to warrant taking the risk.

In the start why didn't black do knight G4 instead of queen A5? If i'm not mistaking it follows that king D2 or D3, knight takes pawn on F2 and he can exchange knight for rook.

I don't get it. Couldn't you have played Qd2 first, THEN placed the knight on d5 to have a discovered attack on the black queen while checking the king?
@milena60097 жыл бұрын
Kam Tag black would be winning time if you play qd2 first. So, qd2, qd8, you use a forcing move Nd5 check, black places his king Kf8 and you cant stand more, cus both your queen and rook are blocked by your knight, you cant attack black pawn in d file and black queen is defending d file because of your first move that made that possible

Good introductory chess concepts, poor delivery. This 14-minute video could've been done in half the time, 10 minutes at most. Also, there are good visuals but there are a number of times that the audience is asked/forced to "follow along" to the verbal move sequence. Is this radio or isn't it video? Show, don't tell. Don't ask us to follow along; use the tool in front of you to show us. Narrator's vocal tones are a bit dry and uncompelling. Look around at some of the better chess videos out there: good narrators will get to the point, show the moves, express enthusiasm, get on with the day, in 10 minutes or less. Other than that, this is not a terrible video but I expect better from Chess.com. Overall grade: C-
