So you have to go through a number of extra steps. A lot of settings aren't working yet. And at the end of it all you get a render that looks like the same old boring 3Delight renders people were getting 8+ years ago??? Why would I want to move away from Iray? The only benefit I saw is real time display of how your lights affect the scene when you move them around. I do admit I hate having to continually switch between Texture and Iray in the viewport to see what my lights are doing but what I care about most is how my final render looks? Maybe I'm missing something?

@@jesse8068 I saw another video about Filament and it seems there's no automatic balancing of lights viewed in Filament or Iray. The position of course is the same but the intensity and color temp of the lighting isn't. You still need to go into Iray preview to make these adjustments for your Iray render. It just seems like there's much more work that needs to be done for this to become very usable. I hope it gets there, I'd love to be able to have a real time display of my lighting in a scene that's useful.

Dear Daz Team, you're doing a great job improving it again and again! Suggestions: - The first 3 loading nodes... why not making a 1-Click = Ready-To-Use Filament so it will load these quick? - Since PBR should be also faster to animate all we need now is a NEW modern, easy to use layered-based Timeline to replace the current options which are very limited and not very user friendly like in Blender (instead of export and animating in Blender I mean). A new Timeline built-in Daz Studio will be another step to these nice improvements for sure! Keep up the good work! :)

Here's the problem, though. If you are going to run a production render, you aren't going to depend on the viewport for your final render or animation frames. More than likely you'll be depending on Iray or 3Delight. Expecting a Filament render to match that of an Iray render is lunacy. Both Eevee and Cycles are not only are available as viewport options in Blender, they are also utilized for final renders. Filament in Studio is viewport-only.

@@SexycuteStudios It's been out for 4 days, hopefully there will be some improvements. Eevee was not as feature rich as it is now when it first came out. @@MikeTaylor-uw5zy Filament is pre-vis, so may help for those with potato computers when it comes to test render passes. Major step forward for Daz and the industry in general, mainly because you can use Iray Shaders and still get very fast Renders for Animation for the very FIRST TIME with Daz!! However, regardless of your instructions I still cannot get ANY shadows after Showing Hidden and Switching Shadows on from None. The Animation Interface I'm hoping will be updated also being that it is very old and antiquated. Also hopefully turning everything on will be automated with the turning on of a single option instead of having to manually load so many functions to get Filament going each time. Also we need the option to export to MP4 instead of just AVI, whick though very quick for such a heavy file format, would speed up rendering without the extremely large file size. Awesome step forward it just needs refinement.

Guess my short question would be, would this version be compatible with my current graphics card or will I need to look into upgrading? I plan on building a dedicated workstation for Daz in the future (as soon as I figure out the best system specs) and love how fast the computer response time is in the video above. *edit: And I'm not focused on cost, just looking for an "ideal" setup to set as a goal... or if this new version of Daz will run on what I have without slowing it down.

If you only render with it, then it should be perfect for your system. You can also consider to get another identical Graphics Card and more Energy for your computer, to upgrade it on low costs, but by a great step forward. First check if your computer's main-board supports that.

That is hilarious - you managed to develop tech to reduce rendering time to literally zero? Previously using detailed rendering with Iray while making changes to the scene was very heavy and practically the game-breaker for many and most users and projects. I will try to update my DAZ Studio today, and experience with it. I think, working in DAZ Studio will become finally smooth enough. After testing, my expectations have been met. It is pretty good for having a smooth workflow during scene design for arrangement and posing. This is very good! However, I discovered an issue with some clipping of meshes/textures which is very noticeable when translating/rotating the Viewport's Camera's view, and the invisibility stays on many angles. It happened to Eyes (partially invisible), Clothing (partially invisible) and Hair (some shine on it create scattering particles). I was not able to find out why that is, and how to fix it. I think it has to do with transparency. I was loading a scene that I had previously optimized for Iray, and then changed setup for this new preview based rendering engine to fully/correctly utilize, like demonstrated by you. I want to understand what is going on there. Either you, someone else or eventually me, may find out why. Please help with information, if you can. I am getting back to it now. After more experimentation, I got the impression that the error has something to do with the bouncing of light.

The primary benefit of filament would be for artists that would want to have a very quickly rendered preview to inspect timing/other animation quirks that may be present before they actually dedicate MANY hours on a final animation using Iray afterwards, aside from that scenario I see little purpose as emissions etc aren't available and the output isn't even remotely close to Iray so it doesnt even serve as a real-time previewer for Iray since the output in lighting and shading is so different.

But why would I want to constantly render a preview, especially considering the difference in render engines? I hope Daz doesn't put too much resources into yet another open source project because there's no telling what might happen next. Just take a look at Luxusrender; this has become unusable in DS after they restarted their project.

My guess is, this is really only going to be useful for someone testing animations in real time with lighting and shadow. Imagine testing an animation in DAZ Studio using Iray. This is real pre-vis stuff for animation. DAZ is marketing it as the Next Coming of Renders. I've already seen people posting "Filament renders" as if it's something cool and new. No pro worth his or her salt is going to suddenly switch finished renders to screenshots of Filament. It's just pre-vis for animation.
