Glad you like it, it will take a good while for it to dull. I have recently tried to sharpen mine on the waterstones, after i hit a few rocks while cutting up some undergrowth. The tip etc like you are saying is a pain to sharpen, i think because of the angles it is grinded at. i have managedto get it sharp but no where near as sharp as the rest of the blade. Getting it done by a shop or professional may be a good choice.

Thanks for the info. Mine was supposed to be here but got sent the wrong way! Supposed to be here tomorrow and good to hear what you said because that is mostly what mine will be for as well.

Lots of forum guys dis Tops ,mostly due to their marketing but I bought one and the quality is incredible. Just a perfect build with everything matching and lined up. Perfect grinds. Some dislike their grinds but really they have such a vast selection that there really is one for everyone from collectors to bushcraft.Hey, the legend Ron Hood collaborated with them and that speaks for itself.

Ok got it and it is amazing!! I beat it all week and it never dinged,dulled or anything although as you mentioned it's not quite as sharp as I'd hoped. Were you able to do the radius and tip with the strop? I used a lansky kit but the way the knife is you can't hit the tip. Although as tough as this thing is I might take it and have it done locally once and I bet that will last for a long time.

have it and love it :) i did file the serrations to be a little sharper but its a great chopper i accompany with a smaller knife, the hammer function i did test out the other day it works not the easiest. the serrations as they are factory aren't very great at notching but a little work at sharpening them up and they work great

I ordered one and it's supposed to arrive around the 18th, it was advertised as a survival knife and it looks like a bowie knife on steroids! (Love it) I see now with all these finer details the thing is definitely meant for more than just chopping up stuff. A few other videos I saw on the knife definitely didn't show off all of the extra stuff and some of them didn't even know how or understand what they where looking at. Does the handle hurt your pinky when using the blade to chop stuff? I heard the extra material on the pommel will make the shock from chopping stuff ride up the handle and hurt your pinky and wrist!

The sheath idea came from the Buck Hoodlum, or was it the other way round? I'll keep surfing to see if I can find a vid with this thing in action.

So would you recommend it for survival?
@knivestown
@knivestown 12 жыл бұрын
It would actually be a greater concentration of energy than with the flat side. Also, using the flat side would pose a much greater stress on the blade and run a greater risk of bending, deforming or even snapping, depending on what was being hammered.

i own one of these punishers, they are brutal, best for chopping trees logs etc. Never needed to sharpen mine, have run it over a strop as tops knives never really come razor sharp.

@antiark1 I fully agree. This is a great knife. Very capable, and not just for a zombie apocalypse. have taken it afield, and will continue to do so. But a new sheath has already been ordered, not much good to say about that. Overall, very impressed.

I would buy the knife in a heart beat, if it came with the N969Co steel like my Fox Hitam Golok, too bad it only comes in 1095 and it would be much better if it came with the 1095 CroVan, ask Fox if they could make it in the steels I mentioned.

weight is really the only challenge for TOPS, but if they fix that they probably loose a lot of the tactical properties with it =/

@antiark1 Ihave ordered a kydex drop leg for mine from red hills sheaths dot com. I have also spoken to Dan Certo at relentless knives dot com. He is the designer of the MX4. He makes sheaths as well, both kydex and leather. I believe either of these would be fine choices. Happy hunting.

So after a bunch of brain wrenching hours I ordered this knife finally. It really looks like the Jack of all trades although probably master of none. Anyway I'll be using and torturing it since that's what I use tools for. At 170 dollars I expect it to stand up to the... oh god umm ABUSE , I simply had to think of another word besides punishment lol. I will upload vids of how well it works at my needs ( mostly hacking limbs clearing 4 wheeler trails and cutting firewood ect.. )

Those two knives are fairly similar when you look at them. I don't think there is much one could do that the other couldn't. The TOPS has a few features the ESEE does not and may be more widely useful, but the ESEE is a more traditional design. The best advice I can give is just get both, then you won't risk any regrets. :)
