Part 2 of my comment: Generally I like a exposed full tang on a knife, but not on a camping/survival knife, because in cold conditions your fingers can freeze to the metal. I haven't done desert hiking myself yet, but I have heard a guy complaining about the exposed metal on one of his TOPS knifes (I think it was an Anaconda, but they're all the same in that regard) getting uncomfortably hot after a day in hard sunlight.

the pocket is not big enough for an Altoids tin. Think small multi tool, pocket knife or fire starter and some tinder and fishing line/hooks.

Good idea. I'll do that.

Part 1 of my comment: I don't know, but none of the knifes that were specifically marketed as survival knifes in recent times really seemed committed to the role of a survival knife. In most cases the word "survival" just seems tagged on. In this case the saber grind and the blade's belly isn't ideal for splitting fire wood. Knifes like the flat ground Cold Steel Trailmaster that aren't labeled as survival knifes are way better for such a role.
