So, this is where I live. We've officially received more snow in the past two days than all winter last year. I'm staying home, thank you for this video that serves to remind me why I don't to out on the roads when they ask us not to... there are people out there. Waiting it out and seeing the conditions right here :) Thanks for sharing ! No mail, no deliveries for the past 3 days, now I know why.

I agree! I live in Erie, and did not go out at all! And these morons do not know how to drive in the snow at all!! They floor the gas pedal, DUMB mistake!! I've been driving since the early 80's, and I know how to drive in the snow. But if it's that bad out , I would not even attempt it.

No pay towards your exorbitant medical bills, though?, here in the UK I can have 40 days paid holiday a year and NHS care if I crash on the way to work, if it snowed like this I can book it off and get paid.

I carried 300lbs of sand and 100 lb of salt in the back of my truck. The idea was to open the bags and use them if i ever got stuck, but i never got stuck because of the weight and the fact i put winter tires on my truck. Didnt even need the back roads plowed, uphill, everything, was fine. Ended up using it to help others though

When i hear a snow storm is coming, takes me 10 minutes to change to snow tires, and i usually put two 5 gallon buckets full with a mix of ice melt and speedy dry,for traction is amazing plus is less heavy than sand,of course a flat shovel long handle, tow strap, emergency gear, etc, all fitted in my SUV,i wish many can do the same.

Only a couple mins into this video and I see one woman cussing at someone filming her in distress, and at first was thinking really cussing at someone filming you, but then it struck me how this is the way our world now is, people would rather film someone in distress instead of helping them get out of that stressful situation. Frustrating as it is, unfortunitly that is for the most part at least how people are towards one another these days. Sad but true! I hope and pray for all those affected by these crazy storms, and that everyone makes it home safely. Please remember that we all need to help each other get through this crazy new unpredictable world. God blees all!

As a Canadian resident I have the solution to all of these issues. When bad weather comes, stay home. I'm so sick of society putting presure on everyone to go somewhere or do something. If you are driving in a blizzard you are the problem not the storm. Have to go to work or take your child to ballet? No you don't have to do anything. Ask your 10 year old if they would rather stay home and play or make a failed attempt to get to ballet and spend 2 days trapped in a car on the freeway and they will likely give you the correct answer. Municipalities should prioritize keeping the power on and clearing the main arteries for emergency services. Ignore the airport because they have food and shelter and chose to be there. You are not a doctor or a nurse. If you have elderly family call them and make sure they know how important it is to stay inside and not bother clearing snow. If you don't have a weeks food and medication in reserve during the winter you are part of the problem. You are no match for mother nature and frankly you aren't that important. Just stay home.

I only made it home thanks to a few 18 wheelers who came to my aide and pushed me if I became stuck. I even offered them a safe haven but they were at a spot with hotels/motels. A lot of posts regarding Erie's finest & why People from Erie aren't used to the lake effect, or prepared for this mostly well -forecasted event, but keep in mind that this was black Friday & Thanksgiving weekend. People who aren't accustomed to Lake Effect were traveling through one of the heaviest snowfalls in Erie history. The storm total of 65" for Girard was the heaviest single storm total for any Erie County Lakeshore Community taken by a trained "spotter," although I would imagine that the town of Northeast, PA near the NY line has had higher totals. I don't think that there were many trained spotters until the 90s? The 2017 Christmas storm in Millcreek & Erie may have exceeded the 65" mark, but I think a large amount was taken off the totals by an investigative team that decided the measuring was not done properly & that adjacent measurements showed that the airport's could not have been correct. Unless those adjacent measurements were north anywhere from the airport to the shoreline a mile or two away, or east a mile or two, they would not have mattered. This is based on the radar images that showed the band meandering just onshore w/ the airport area just into the western part of the city as ground zero for the heaviest snowfall rates, likely 2-4 inches an hour. Highest totals in PA snowbelt from one lake effect storm--Saegertown in 2011? (give or take a year)--anywhere from 85 to 100". Also, weeks valley road in Venango twp, Erie County, north of Wattsburg and close to NY line--they measured like 90" or 100" or so but I think they never completed measurements b/c they all just got buried alive or something. Not sure if their remains were ever found. Almost all joking nearly aside, in the 2008-2009 snow season they recorded 378" for the year. It technically wasn't in one storm but that winter was so bad that the National Weather Service just considered the entire winter as one big storm, & posthumously awarded them with "the worst part of Erie County PA to live in from October 1st through June 15th." Anyway, back to 2024, most of the people driving were probably trying to get back home & maybe had to work right after the Holiday weekend. Some that were 10 to 20 miles south that drove north to I90 might have left under peaks of sunshine and November-greenish grass, without a hint of the snowband that stayed mostly parallel to the Lakeshore the first 2 to 3 days of the storm. And yes, some were just idiotic Erieites. I should know because I am one. I once drove into the heart of a fast moving Lake Effect band that was dropping 5" per hour on a dark, Frigid night just to see what 5" an hour looked like. I'll save you the suspense--it didn't look like anything b/c I couldn't see s&!t. It looked like me and a few other morons driving on a desolate secondary highway at 3mph with our car doors open & hazard lights on just to try to see if we were still on the road. Lucky I didn't hurt someone. For those old enough to remember some of the goofier SNL skits of the late 80s/early 90-Bad Idea Jeans. For the younger chaps-- #badidea in-between Gump Generation--stupid is as stupid does

Should be the law to swap to Winter tires for Winter season... I don't know, it just makes sense to me. Reply was deleted so, to the last guy: @DeepRestMan Anyways, cops already do this in Canada. Penalty is 200-300$ (depending on if you were caught before, etc). Cops already stop people in both the USA and Canada for busted headlights, as it's their job to enforce safety laws. It's no different for tires. It's not hard to spot tires that aren't certified for Winter (they don't have the specific Winter logo on them at all). Even someone with All season Winter certified tires can get caught, due to the tire patterns between tires being vastly different (by design).

I spent a year in that area and those "lake effect" storms are incredible, how much snow they dump. What I learned about driving there in Winter is, you just don't drive while those big storms are blowing through. Then you wait until after the storms have lightened up and the road crews have had a chance to clear the roads before heading out. If I lived there I probably would have 4WD and swap tires in Winter, if I could afford it and had a place to store the extra 4 wheels and tires. And would carry tire socks, sand, shovel, etc.

( ok so you caught me, the Canadian spelling ) simply because winter tires would be an extremely rare commodity in Australia, yet there you are using your brain and can't figure out why some people who live in an area like that are clueless from one year to the next and repeat the same stupidity year after year ( and roll down their window and yell at someone taking video rather than trying to figure out where they went wrong in life ).

I've gotten to know a few guys from Australia from online forums, farm forums etc and some I have kept in touch with for almost 20 years now. Unfortunately I never will get to Australia myself and almost have one foot in the grave as it is myself. I had not heard of David Icke until more recently and while I can't grasp certain beliefs he has, never the less there are a few very evil powerful people in this world pulling all the puppet strings of the politicians and why we are in the mess we are in so many ways. Just look at the joke of a Prime Minister we have in Canada and alternative media in Australia knows it all too well !. Ok so I am a little off topic LOL, but this winter I had bought a set of winter studded tires made by Nokian ( a company from Finland ) and right on the side of the tire it says "TYRE", I had a good chuckle over that.
