Great shots of what bad winter storms can be like. This is why authorities ask people to stay off the roads. Deadly in more ways than one. Just because you own a 4x4 doesn't mean you can get around. When the plows and sanding trucks can't stay on the roads neither will you. From high snowfall to driving winds and frigid temps winter storms can be brutal and deadly. I did a 3 hour trip in 5 hours near Seattle where there was at least an inch of glare ice on the roads -- 30 km/hr on the I5 just trying to get to the airport. Even the police were in the ditch. Never again.

As long as you are alive, you will never understand it! People are traveling to work not only locally, but interstate like truckers, sales, government workers and others. They got caught in these bad weathers on the traveling.

Some people like myself are forced to go out in it. I deliver mail and have to deal with it all day. Because heaven forbid if people don't get their junk mail and stupid unnecessary packages.

We long haul truckers who go home only every 3 to 4 weeks are stuck in it. That said, when conditions are too unsafe for driving, we are supposed to find a safe parking place and stay until it’s safe to drive again. The problem is finding a safe place to park, possibly several days, and need to carry enough food and water and fuel to survive. Be safe, everybody.

Some people have to travel on those roads to get back home like me. I live in Kansas City, MO, but was in NC working at a job for two months. I had to break the contract and called in on the last days of shows for yesterday on Saturday. My parents left Thursday morning to go all the way to NC, and did a turn around. We left back for KC around 3 am to beat the snow storm and got back to KCMO around 8 pm last night. Once we hit MO, the roads were iced, slippery, and it started snowing too. We passed several car/truck accidents, flipped cars and cars in ditches. Some of these people were speeding too.

When traveling in snowy areas with thick packed snow. Usually there’s signs saying to pull over and put on snow chains. It’s chains, shaped like a ladder. The wrap the tire.. can lay them in front of each tire, and then drive forward 10” or so, and then wrap over the tire and connect the ends. Chains give tires more grip to stop sliding.

I think Newsom's ideas about battery powered snowplows isn't doing so well. That one they had ran out of power after only 1/2 hour and 180 feet of travel. I think Newsom needs to rethink this a little bit.

In the past, we have had 30 ft. of snowfall in the Sierras in a week. Nobody pays attention to 10 inches of snow here But then, it doesn't get nearly as cold as it does in many parts of the USA and Canada and you have to deal with extremely icy roads a lot.
