We're pregnant right now with identical triplets. We were told the odds are a 1 in 64,000. The doctors are very specific, and throw many numbers at you. We're in the same boat though, no fertility... spontaneous as they call it.

Multiple births of identical siblings are not genetic. It is by random chance that one fertilized embryo splits.

+May Morgan Nah it's purely up to chance. Fraternal twins can be genetic because a woman could inherit the ability to release multiple eggs during ovulation. That is why identical triplets are so rare. There is a decent chance a single egg will split once but for it to split twice? Very rare. :)

How about the identical Dionne Quintuplets from Canada. One placenta. One split, two split again and two split again. One died in utero, so 5 born and grew up. Born at home, kept warm in the oven. A great story to read. Identical.

@EatPlums That's not true at all both 5 girls or 5 boys are a handful. 😩 A lot of people think having girls is a nightmare, but it really isn't much harder than having boys. But people almost always prefer having boys over girls and believe having girls is so much harder. So I'm not surprised to find this sort of comment. 🤷‍♀️
