It's funny that these people don't want to acknowledge that no one owes them a job. Why would a single owner coffee shop want a contract with their employees? What does the shop have to gain from a bunch of unskilled laborers trying to dictate how things go? Of course the business is just going to pack up and sell off. The employees made the business untenable.
@bongkey2210
@bongkey2210 5 ай бұрын
Maybe, if the business owner actually wanted to keep skilled employees who didn't feel the urge to unionize, they would have paid the employees a livable wage. That said, you're right, the business has the right to pack up and sell off. What the business doesn't have the right to is anyone's labor other than their own. This is a two-way street. Business needs employees to survive. Employees need business to survive. Neither is obligated to the labor and/or money of the other.
@ShaggyRogers1
@ShaggyRogers1 5 ай бұрын
@@bongkey2210 "keep skilled employees" Your first mistake is acting like the employees are "skilled". You can teach literally any semi independent person off the street to be a barista. "Paid their employees a living wage". Again, you fail to understand that not all jobs are MEANT to provide a "living wage". The job aimed at teenagers and college students trying to earn some pocket money isn't meant to provide a "living wage". If you didn't like the wages, don't take the job. Acting like forming a "union" and making a bunch of demands when the business hasn't even broken even yet is the height of stupid entitlement.

I stopped buying coffee from coffee shops, and my wife and i saved a few thousand bucks over the last 3 and a half years. 😊 Life is good, you baristas that want to unionize need to understand the public does not need you. @rbarnes4076
@rbarnes4076 5 ай бұрын
Unions are generally profitably for union leadership, not for the union members. Hierarchies create their own needs, no matter what their stated purpose. It has ALWAYS been a scam to get money from the guy that is your rank and file union member. My grandfather hated them for this exact reason. Unionizing baristas is like you said, stupid. But I'd argue that unionizing any job is stupid. They don't fulfill their stated purpose.. they simply line the pockets of union leadership and create an unholy alliance with politicians. Dreadful.

As a person who has been a union member for over forty years, people have to understand a small business cannot afford union wages, the profit margin just isn't there. Also it's usually not just wages soon will come demands for health care. paid vacations etc. those will for sure break the bank.

I am sure that coffee shop was in Australia that was charging 18% more for men who ordered. Some of few things small shops, stores, and eateries make money on items such fountain drinks, coffee, and tea. They don't make bank off these items, it is the other items they sell along side with it. For eateries it usually thing such as Fries and other sides that add up. Again it is all the other items they may sell that pay for cost of doing business such as payroll, electric, gas, property tax, and so on and so forth. Otherwise you have to have steady line people waiting to be serve Coffee, tea, or specialty drink for the shop to make enough money to turn a tidy profit. Next most Coffee Shops I have been too, the baristas get tips. So if you not hustling for the tips, it really your fault you not making the money you think you should.
