They certainly played fast and loose with some of the facts. For instance, Wyatt had no intention of retiring from law enforcement, he planned on running for sheriff, and did serve as deputy sheriff. But of all the Earp/Holiday/Tombstone movies, and I have 9 on DVD, this one is the most accurate.

But Tombstone made it clear that Wyatt was not looking for revenge but for a reckoning instead. This is far more terrifying for the Cowboys Gang because revenge means Wyatt would only kill those specific people who killed his brother. But a reckoning is equivalent to full genocide or eradication of the Cowboys Gang to purify the land from their evil once and for all.

@@bigdave46148 I don't know, I think it's pretty well established that it was Wyatt. Sure, the scene is pure fiction. Wyatt pretty much ambushed Stilwell on a dark, deserted section of track. The scene that was totally fictionalized was Doc killing Johnny Ringo. Doc was in court in Colorado the day Johnny Ringo died, and besides, Ringo killed himself.

@@ryanpmcp I think Ike was in the vicinity, but he took off before Wyatt killed Stilwell. And I don't think Clanton was directly involved in Morgan's assassination, anyway. It was Frank Stilwell and Pete Spence, with Indian Charlie and Hank Swilling as lookouts.

While I think he deserved a nomination, whether he deserved a win is certainly debatable. He would have been too against Jack Nicholson from A Few Good Men, Al Pacino from Glengarry Glen Ross, and Gene Hackman from Unforgiven (who actually won). It would be hard to pick because 1992 was such a great year for movies.

In the movie Wyatt and his posse are killing Cowboys left and right. In fact they only killed four: Frank Stilwell, Florentino Cruz, Curly Bill, and Johnny Barnes. Barnes was actually wounded but died from complications some months later and it's generally believed that Johnny Ringo committed suicide.

Different circumstances, different words spoken (actually whispered, rather than shouted), but the meaning was VERY clear - hell was just two steps behind him and woe be unto any that got in his way.

There's a saying that the man who just wanted to raise his family, do his job, and be left alone is the most dangerous. Because, they know that if they're ever pushed to a point to take up violence, they would be sacrificing all that they hold most dear. So, they're literally men who have nothing left and will seek vengeance on those that made him that way..
