Plus sometimes i prefer to listen to certain songs you covered over the original cause sometimes the drums are quiet or something like the production of the drums are eh & your covers bring the drums out more. So... I sampled my drum set. What you are hearing is the samples of the actual kit you see. As far as play the tracks... I play all the shells on a Roland TD-15k. I capture velocity and timing this way. For the cymbals I use two Audio Technica AT2020's as overhead mics. I record all the audio well in advance and the reason it is synced is because I learn every section note for note... So I play them the same way every time.
