I want to say that The Other Mother was terrifying as a child, but as someone who's now 21, her behaviour is particularly creepy, considering that she lures children into her lair via love-bombing them and giving them everything they want, until they lose their innocence and have their worldview and hope taken away. She takes them and tries to control them, to consume them. There are so many things that come to my mind when I think about that. All awful. Coraline was probably my favourite movie as a kid alongside Shrek 1-2 because it's like a fairytale, indeed. Warning children of the mischief of the wicked, but also giving them inspiration to defeat it.

im convinced Neil gaiman wrote her to be a metaphor for female pedophiles. i havent done any further research to prove my theory, but from what I've gathered from the story, it all points to that. female pedophiles all do the same thing coralines other mother does, target naive neglected young girls and manipulate them into loving them by giving then what they've never had. she also seems to target young women of color ,the group of people that are notoriously famous for being neglected and abused.
