Of course, Emily would be happy, but honestly what Emily really needed was closure. Together, Victor & Victoria set each other free. Victor & Victoria had chemistry from the start, and together, they will free each other. Especially if they can get away from both of their families, and with their marriage they may both be able to move into a place of their own, where I'm sure they'd grow with eachother.

I would personally disagree, the whole point of the movie was for Victor to learn how to crawl out of his shell and he did just that when at the climax he himself decided to challenge Lord Barkis, putting his life on the line for his fiancée and Emily. Although he didn't win that was still courageous of him to do considering how much of a fraidy cat he was at the beginning of the movie. Victor at the start would never have dreamed of such a thing and would probably have run away like a coward. Another example is at the end when he tried to stop Emily because he felt the need to fulfill his promise, before then he was doing everything in his power to try to get rid of Emily even stooping as low as to lie to her about seeing his parents just so he could go back home, the fact that he felt the need to repay her says that he sees much more of her as a person now and not a minor inconvenience. He went from a trembling coward, scared of his own shadow to a firm, competent, brave, strong and compassionate husband for Victoria. All three main characters developed just as much as the other.

For instance, she seemed very interested in Victor's piano playing, and said she was never allowed to play because her mother said it was "too passionate" I bet Victor would be more than happy to teach her. Victoria was very bold to run away like that and I'm sure more of her boldness will shine through when she's away from her toxic family. Her & Victor may live alone or she may live with Victor's family, who have their own problems for sure, but are much more open & welcoming then Victoria's parents. I've seen too many comments that say "Emily's so much better, she has character, she can play piano, Victoria has no flavor, her personality is flat", I just hate that kind of comments... she has been bullied by her family into being obedient and quiet, wasn't allowed near a piano while loving it and she's not hating Emily once she learns her story. She's a good woman... If Emily would have wanted Victor, it would have been a good couple, but Victoria also deserves to be freed from her awful parents, and either be in a romantic relationship with Victor, or them being in a qpr so they are "politically correct", a socially acceptable household, but they don't even need to sleep in the same room, they can get their freedom thanks to each other.

It's so important to remember that Victoria initiated the courtship. She approached Victor and continued to speak to him despite not having a ch-ch-chaperone around (😂). She defied her parents and their will (a HUGE no-no in that era) because she thought he was in danger. She consulted the church about the living dead (an even BIGGER no-no in that era). She smack-talked Lord Barkiss when he revealed his true colors. And finally, she is kind and gentle despite the influence and abuse of her parents. This is what makes Victoria a beautiful personality in her own way. Even Emily herself recognizes that beauty, and realizes her own selfishness. The Maggot and the Black Widow painted Victoria to be plain and forgettable; they said she was alive but dead in personality. But when Emily saw her peeking at them at the altar, she didn't see an "overrated, overblown" girl. She saw a woman who had hope, a woman who had dreams, a woman who was in love, despite the consequences. When Emily saw the living, and breathing Victoria for the first time, she also saw her living and breathing self from a time long gone. That is why she can move on without Victor. That is why she can make her final rest. Emily is no longer bereft of love because she can rest easy knowing she allowed Victoria to find the love she deserved. She saved Victoria and found peace and healing from it.

FINALLY my girl gets the respect she deserves 😭 I was a very shy, introverted girl when I first saw this film so a character with a similar temperament who still had leagues of inner strength meant so much to me. I've always been mad that the die-hard Emily fans insisted on trashing Victoria instead of taking the time to consider how and why a character like her could actually be important to us quiet ones who deserve our own brand of strong heroine. Girlbosses are great but some of us growing up needed characters like Victoria who told us that we weren't broken for not being outgoing or outspoken enough. Like Victoria we could still be strong without changing a damn thing about ourselves EDIT: She also doesn't get enough credit for telling the truth about Victor's marriage to Emily during a time period when a woman could have very easily been locked in an asylum for being too "hysterical." Girl knew what she was risking and tried to save him anyway ❤
