Wyeth Conversations: Kathleen Foster

Join Dr. Kathleen A. Foster, a leading authority on the history of American watercolor painting, for a captivating discussion of Andrew Wyeth’s masterful use of this medium including his early work and the influence of Winslow Homer. Foster will share insights from her direct experiences with Andrew and Betsy Wyeth while co-curating the 2006 exhibition Andrew Wyeth: Memory & Magic, as well as her reflections on Wyeth in the context of the art history of the United States. This program will be held online using Zoom Webinar.
Foster serves as Robert L. McNeil, Jr., Senior Curator of American Art and Director of the Center for American Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and is a member of the board of the Wyeth Foundation for American Art. In addition to overseeing exhibitions on Thomas Eakins, Winslow Homer, and Mary Cassatt, major collection reinstallations and conservation projects, and extensive published scholarship, Foster has had a lasting impact on the museum community through her mentorship of a generation of former interns and fellows in the Center for American Art who have gone on to museum careers of their own.
"Wyeth Conversations" is an ongoing series of dialogues with expert insiders who have unique perspectives on the making and afterlives of Andrew Wyeth’s work. Hosted by Dr. William L. Coleman, the Brandywine’s Wyeth Foundation Curator and Director of the Andrew & Betsy Wyeth Study Center, these events invite the public into the ongoing work of research and stewardship of one of the most important creative legacies in American art.
