Wynton relieving younger generations of their ignorance of the genius of Louis Armstrong. A very respectful tribute from one outstanding player to another.

Tributes never equate the impact of the original, and this is no exception. Still - a joy to listen to

This is by far my favorite Wynton performance as a tribute to Louie. Louie's in there, but Wynton adds his own flair to it, it bridges the gap. Awesome.

I love the first time the full band comes in, when that man says "oh it's not tight like that" Immediately thereafter, it's tight like that

Wynton led a whole new genre of music, the era of the jazz virtuoso established in the 80’s-90’s. He is not traditional at all, though he identifies as a traditionalist. My conviction.

If you truly listen to the music, you can hear the tradition in terms of the blues, the style and the virtuosity. It’s also mixed with the sound of Wynton’s ideas with traditional music and playing

Amazing! I agree with you kingoliver, the original is definitely the best. Wynton did a great job staying on the theme of Louis' solo though, and tore it up overall. I had the pleasure of seeing the LCJO a couple weeks ago at the Hollywood Bowl, but unfortunately they didn't include this gem. They did do "Moody's mood for love" though, which was classic.

Louis Armstrong and His Hot Five Orignial Lyrics Voice: Ah, it's tight like this Louis: No, it aint tight like that either. Voice: I say it is tight like this Louis: Let it be tight like that then Voice: Oh, it's tight like that, Louis Voice: Oh, it's tight like that, Gates Voice: Now, it's close like that. (Now it closes like that)

I much prefer the Nicholas Payton version of this song from the album Dear Louis, but the band is fire. Although, the Rhythm section is either paying tribute to the Dear Louis version during the tenor solo, or the Dear Louis version to this version. Can't remember when Dear Louis was recorded, but both versions do a similar thing during the tenor solo. Big jazzy pedal point
