Hey, tip on those smaller CNCs. They're WAY less powerful. By a lot. I've got one. One of the easiest things to do with those is instead of building a full part in them, build a template that's only 1/4" thick or so, then take that template to your router table with a template bit and cut it out like you normally would. MUCH faster if you aren't doing something totally complex.
@nfwolfpryde3 жыл бұрын
Also, get a diamond drag bit. Make some little aluminum or brass tags with vector art from the maker's signature, looks awesome when you give it to a customer.
@LexSama3 жыл бұрын
i have a little one as well i think theirs is a bit stronger then my 3018 you need to go slower and not as deep as fast with the smaller cnc units
@TheRubbberDucky3 жыл бұрын
@@LexSama You are 100% correct. That is a pretty big bit for a small spindle and if they want to use it then they need to try cutting less material at a time.

I knew nothing about CNC machines around 7 months ago. Then watched an episode you guys had. Then looked for a job. Now I'm head in a department. Not sure if I should thank you or not, because that confidence of knowing that I can fix whatever problem with the program is in 10 minutes. Then spending days on it is too real for me. Keep up the entertaining work guys. 🤘👍

if you make the min thickness gauge out of red acrylic and the max thickness gauge out of green acrylic it'd be much more user friendly
@greyborg38463 жыл бұрын
I, too, was thinking that they're currently too easy to confuse. Actually, since the text on them is engraved they could just fill the text with color like you would the numbers on a die.
@amstrad003 жыл бұрын
This is a good idea, but can just as easily be accomplished with some colored masking tape
@VagabondTE3 жыл бұрын
I had that exact idea! I was thinking they should be color coded. Though they might be able to just rub paint in the lettering. edit: oops, someone said that too lol
@cogspace3 жыл бұрын
Pro tip: Color blindness is way more common than most people realize, especially among males (1 in 12), so use cyan instead of pure green to make it easy for almost everyone to tell them apart.

Johnny's journey with the CNC felt like my experience with 3d printing. The first little projects work so well and you have the time of your life. Then you try something a little bit harder and it's hours of troubleshooting for a subpar result xp

It's genuinely a brilliant idea. Maybe not tiny but like a quarter scale.
@greenmind34883 жыл бұрын
The problems you guys were having were definitely feedrate, as well as volume per pass. Those tools are really small, so the edge forces on them can get pretty high. Thats part of why there was chipping and blowout on test piece. I suggest finding a custom feedrate and cut depth, and using that to scale the rest of the wood types for that small machine. Another thing to think about is possibly the machine thinking the top surface of the wood was lower than reality, aka the raw piece being too tall.

Absolutely cute as can be! I started off my wood working/CNC addiction with one of those small machines - 750 dollar China eBay nightmare made from PVC board with spindle that looked like a fat rc motor with an er11 collet on the end. If you can shorten that tool up you'll get less t rex mating call 😉 Lol The acrylic 'go/no-go' gauges are a slick idea, they'll definitely come in handy on the production floor. Protip - make plenty of spares, those things will get lost or broken quick!
