Great Pyrenees (livestock guardian dogs) and Pyrenees mixes, featured in this documentary, are representative of dogs that continue to pass through animal control facilities everyday, as a result of neglect and overbreeding. These magnificent dogs are only given a few days to live in these facilities before they are killed.
This documentary tells the personal stories of families and individuals that have provided a temporary home for dogs until a permanent home is found. These compassionate people have literally saved dogs' lives. However, dogs continue to be killed in shelters every day as there are not enough fosters available.
Be inspired and learn from these uplifting stories. And, perhaps you too may consider the possibility of offering a temporary home... to save a life.

We adopted a Great Pyrenees from a rescue a little more than a year ago. He is the sweeter. most loving dog that we ever owned ❤️ I am 71 years old and we own a small house with a small backyard. He adapted right away We love him more than anything 😊

Bless you! I'm part of a Pyr rescue in Richmond, VA and we are bursting at the seams with Pyrs. They are awesome BUT they are not for everyone. Thank you for fostering and helping these wonderful dogs find loving homes.

I miss my Rome she was 13 and had a seizure that she never recovered from and seeing these dogs make me miss her even more I took 2 months off work when she died. She was the most loyal most protective and most loveable dog I've ever owned.

I adopted a Great Pyrenees-Mix rescue dog from a shelter in Fort Worth TX about five years ago. They found him wandering along the side of I-35W. Didn't know until a couple years later when I did the doggy DNA test that my sweet rescue was 50% Great Pyrenees. His name is Max, he's 5½ years old, weighs 75 pounds and he looks just like "Soli" in the video here (same size, mannerisms, coloring & markings). I had no idea that DFW was a huge area for breeding the Great Pyrenees. Now I wonder if my Max was abandoned from a backyard breeder whose purebred Pyrenees had puppies with a "Mutt". 🥺😥

I adopted one 2 years ago he was transported up from Tennessee. He is such a sweet, goofy, loving boy. I actually plan on fostering hopefully within the next few months. I fell in love with the breed at doggy training classes and knew i wanted to get one. I have a large yard (1 acre) & 2/3rds of it fenced.

I miss my Ruffle so much. When I am lucky enough to have another chance to own one, it will be another Great Pyrenees from a rescue group shelter. They are magnificent, intelligent, loyal and drooling floofers, and simply wonderful! A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers, rescue groups/people, and fosters to these pyrs. I see myself fostering several pyrs in the near future.

It concerns me that people think that such things are a scam. In Australia we had a rescue Pyrenees Mountain Dog, and yes she was rescued, the previous owner had her tied up all day, and she was mangy and down to 20kg. Emma (the dog), became a beautiful member of the family. I would get another one in a heart beat.

You describe a common scenario. One of my Pyrs was kept on a chain and had broken molars from trying to chew through the links. Animal Control liberated him and the Pyr Rescue took him in. He was skinny, dirty and fearful (broken molars were removed). It has taken awhile for him to trust, but he is now a wonderful member of our pack (three dogs, two humans).

Em, was the same with the trust. We had for a couple of weeks and she very nervous. We went back to the breeder with her to give her a bath, as she was very uncertain. But the moment we took back home, she relaxed and was rapted that she could stay with us. Devoted to the end.

I rescued a Pyrenees. It’s taken 1 year to get her settled and acclimated to her new life. I’m still learning, but now we walk easily and she crash cuddles and sleeps with me. I would give her anything, my soul and first born child.

Here in Missouri , there are so many "puppy mills" ! They once must have gotten over run , because they dumped a momma Pyranees (shorthair) , and her 3 male puppies along the road in Bolivar , Mo . We rescued them . Found homes for the momma and two puppies . I kapt the 3rd . He is longhaired . I named him Ivan , but he is far from terrible :-) He is very loyal , protective , and smart as a whip :-) He is very well-behaved :-)

I have two Great Pyr / Maremma mixes. Leopold was my foster dog. Farmers had bred their two dogs and didn't find homes for all. Leo came to me at 6 or 7 months and had spent that time in a barn. He was scared and uncertain everything. He has come a long way but needs special care because of his fears. He has bitten out of fear and requires ongoing patience and understanding of his responses to stimuli. He is an inspiration and worth every bit of the extra care he needs. His adoptive baby sister was born in a shelter and was socialized from day one. She has helped him immensely. Three of his littermates have sadly been euthanized. Educating adoptive families is so critical, especially regarding fearful dogs, to the success and positive futures for these rescues. Hats off to the Rescues and their fosters for helping these wonderful dogs.

My big guy, 172 lbs. in the video (in the intro w/three dogs) is a Pyr/Maremma mix. He came from a bad situation , chained, abused, and poorly socialized. He is still reactive to certain stimuli. It has taken awhile to figure out his comfort zone but well worth the effort. I thank you for understanding the fear that some of these dogs have as a result of what they have endured. Once they have learned to trust their foster/new family and surroundings they relax and become the dog the breed should be... confident, protective and of course stubborn. The Great Pyr rescue organizations have done tremendous work to educate and find homes for these incredible dogs. Fosters are key to the success in saving so many lives. Thank you for your comment.

I recently adopted a GWP mix puppy. My daughter adopted his brother. He's only around 10 wks old.I'm already seeing a intelligent, sweet dog who loves our family. He seems happier when my 5yr old grandaughter is here to play.I had a 17yr d dog who died a few days after i got the pup.The pup when he first came in to the house walked up to the old dog, and just quietly lay down next to her.I do live in the South, but he comes in the house.
