Papyrus is easily the hardest, his unpredictability is still a challenge for many experienced players. His sheer raw damage leaves you in shambles if you get hit once. And the fact that he is still holding back 6/7s of his true power is a constant flex.

Most of Undyne's attacks have only 4 possible moves that can be made, for all of Sans' moves you have free movement and therefore more room for error.

I mean yes you only have 4 moves but that makes it a lot harder to make mistakes. For example. Against Jevil you have full movement but most of his attacks take up the entire box, so you are forced to either play the way he wants you to or take damage.

@yureiotakughost9464 imo not really, having 4 moves means there is only 4 directions you can be attacked from, meaning much less precise movements are required, you just click the arrow key instead of having to hold for a specific amount of time then release, but again this is just my opinion both fights are very difficult but I find sans to be on a league on its own.

​​@@-MidnightOwl-I usually notice about 1/6 of my health getting removed when I get hit in sans, sometimes more sometimes less. In undyne it's about the same, 1/6 hp-so I really don't think the room for error is that much bigger than in undyne. However you do get punished less the more experience you have in fighting sans due to making less fatal errors in general, so your point still stands. I just don't think the room for error is much bigger, but it definitely is bigger

I’d say undying is easier, since you have less hp, Toby would probably make it easier, not to mention some of her attacks can be easily dodged cause there repetitive, not to mention the weapon you have equipped can influence the rate at which you finish the fight. For sans the weapon you have does not matter, not to mention that when you heal, your still usually taking karma damage, and any attack of his rapidly drains hp.

Omega Flowey will always hunt me in my nightmares, as the hardest, however you should consider that I don't play Genocide routes at all, since I don't want to kill the precious characters

For me, maybe Asgore, because this is my first game. The other bosses were a bit difficult at first because I wasn't used to their patterns, but after a while I got used to it. I got the wrong order in playing the route, instead I started with the pacifist route. So the parts for other bosses like Sans haven't been there yet. For Asgore, I still haven't read the pattern either 😅.

I think the reason I'm currently struggling more with Undyne than with Sans (in the Bad Time Simulator) is because I watched a bazillion videos of people playing the battle before having the chance of playing Undertale myself, Undyne on the other hand never interested me that much, plus I am terrible with ths green soul.

I beat undyne in at most 6-7 attempts, but I just couldn't beat Sans. I had to restart my genocide run to get the perfect inventory, saving all three snowman pieces, which meant I had to beat undyne with only cinnamon buns, An abandoned quiche and unisicles. Still, I was able to beat her with ease, it only took me around 5 or 6 attempts. BUT SANS? GODDAMN IT EVEN WITH THE MOST PERFECT INVENTORY, I CAN'T BEAT HIM

I personally find Undyne harder than Sans, but this may also be on account of having played so many Sans fangames and have a sort of accustomedness to Gravity and poisoning. Undyne’s fight tends to have less than ideal healing items, unideal defensive items, and all around is trickier for me

sans is a constant number of attacks so healing doesnt pause your progression but undyne has to lose all health and not get one shotted at the ned of the fight so healing will essentially do mothing but increase you health that turn

If I am not mistaken you do need to attack sans for the fight to progress so you can't heal entirely for free except at the halfway point .

sans is definitely the coolest boss, but undyne is a very close second, being able to define the laws of nature for monsters to stop you

It’s clearly Photoshop flowey, he is using everything at his disposal to take you down. His attack patterns are unfair, he literally teleports you with the power of saving and loading 6 save files ( which does also heal him if you hit him before the save. ), the music and sound effects are made to make you fail and the only "fair" thing is the checkpoints in the fight, and you can still fail the soul sections (he is also canonically powerful, as he has 6 human souls. ), his appearance is made to shock, scare and freeze you so he can get a few hits in before you can even understand what is going on. Plus, if the souls were willing to help him, he could literally be able to control time with saves. Aka, teleportation and time traveling to the past.

Yeah! The only thing that makes it generally easy are the checkpoints in the fight (after each soul phase) and the healing from the souls (although justice is practically impossible to get any healing from)

It's hard to say. Both test your reflexes, but your reaction speed and ability to quickly correct mistakes determines if Undyne's raw damage is worse, or if Karma kills you.

I personally have no opinion on this because they are both harder than the other in their respective ways. Sans has less room for error, but Undyne has less customization options for armor and weapon as sans can be made easier by using clod classes and the notebook, while with Undyne you are stuck with a lower damage output as well as lower health.

undyne has harder patterns than sans for the most part, but sans is basically just a test of endurance. the whole point of the fights are that, one tries to kill you, the other tries to make you quit.

Did you know, in the sans fight the items that give you extra immunity frames actually do something? They make KR damage you slower than it usually would allowing you to go afk for the first attack and survive

im good with pattern recognition and decision making when it comes to healing and equipment undyne took me an hour and a half. sans took me three. tips with undyne: have cinnabuns as your healing items. they give the most hp as of that point in the game. your weapon and armor should be the tutu and ballet shoes. memorize the order of which she does the attacks. they aren't random, and the patterns with the yellow arrows are the same every time. if you know you struggle with an upcoming attack and you are low on hp, heal. if you know you can get by on an attack, don't heal, fight. tips with sans: use cloudy glasses and torn notebook have pie, noodles, three snowpieces, face steak, and the rest as legendary heroes. try to not heal until the phase change, and save your full heals (noodles + pie) for those moments. if you must heal, use the items in order of least healed hp to most healed hp. pay attention to dialogue, it hints at when the break will come and when he's about to do his final attack. before the final attack, use a full heal item. this is just what i picked up in my playthroughs. now i can one-try both sans and undyne, and actually beat undyne first try with no armor + weapon, and beat sans after three tries with no armor + weapon (it had been around a few weeks since i had done a run)

I will always say that it depends on what? Of the soul modes (blue and green) honestly, green is easier for me than blue (the reason why I beat Undyne in a few tries) while the precision of jumping in blue is much more difficult for me and for me, sans requires more skill, as they say sans is not as difficult, it is the same as undyine (she is not as difficult as they make her paint).

honestly, I agree. Undyne, while certainly a challenge, gets fairly predictable once you fight her a few times. Sans will always use the same attacks in the same order, meaning he's also predictable and you can heal when you know an easier attack is coming, but like you said, sans has a lot less room for error with the lack of any invincibility frames

Depends on the individual player. If you are good at memorizing and consistent play, you will likely tend to find Sans a bit easier (as you will repeat his patterns a lot and they become much easier with practise, and if you just play consistently). If you have good reaction time and work well under pressure, Undyne should feel easier (faster and more confusing patterns require faster reactions and pressure you more often). Both fights become easy with enough practice, like most things, as both fights are, in the end, very scripted with hardly any randomness involved.

Getting hit by sans for a singular frame takes away 13 hp, getting hit for 1 uninterrupted second takes away half of your hp. Failing to dodge sans is far more punishing

The reason undyne is easier is because shes limited to a certain number of attacks and are really easy to learn, meanwhile sans has very unique attacks especially on his first phase where every attack he does is unique every time the battle progresses, and on top of that the fight will always be the same length of attacks because you cant hit him, meanwhile undyne can be hit and killed easily with the right weapon, sure undyne has unique attacks at the start too, but theyre always very similar because of how repetitive the green soul gameplay is, meanwhile for sans it can be a platformer or just you dodging bones or gaster blasters with the blue soul and you cant predict it most of the time

I think it's undyne because i kind of struggle with the concept of healing and attacking, like when fighting sans you just have to survive until the end of his attacks and if you are low in hp you can heal without any consequences but with undyne you realy have to kill her by attacking but if your low in hp healing make you lose a turn of attack wich makes the fight longer.

It took me 125 attempts to beat sans, and i know its exactly that because I checked the value in my save file after i did beat him. (The game keeps track of it for you because of the unique lines for the first few attempts.)

Sans used to be harder for me but then I practiced his fight a lot and not Undyne’s so I can first try him, but then I realized my Undyne fight was bad so I practiced her’s too, and now I can consistently first try both, but my mastery of Sans’s is more complete so undyne’s harder

I think Undyne is slightly harder because: Most of her attacks are different every time She never gives you a break to heal (you can fully heal during sans's attempt at pacifying you) There is no set pattern to which attacks she uses, meaning you cant take a safe chance at attacking on low health because "the next attack I'm good at" You can get better armor and healing before sans than undyne
