At only $20, the #WyzeCam is about one tenth of the price of some of its competitors. It’s an indoor camera with 1080p HD, eight times optical zoom, and a field of view of 110 degrees. While the viewing angle is a bit more narrow than I like, otherwise, I’m impressed with the Wyze Cam’s video display. It also has awesome infrared night vision and two-way audio.
Storage-wise, the Wyze Cam knocks it out of the park. It offers local storage through a USB port and 14 days of free cloud storage. Keep in mind that some companies charge a dollar a day for cloud storage, so this is incredibly generous on top of the low price. I also love that the camera integrates with both Amazon Alexa and IFTTT, so you’ll be able to use vocal commands and create convenient home automations. Although the Wyze Cam lacks person detection or facial recognition, it does have smart sound recognition for your smoke and C.O alarms. Pretty impressive for $20!

I really like this review. We bought our Wyze Cams a little over a month ago. I do not believe that you touched on my favorite feature, that is the Shortcuts you can create. My wife and I have three different shortcuts we set up depending on if anyone is at home and what time it is. All you have to do is open the app, touch the shortcut and it does what you told it to do in the shortcut. I do wish there was an easy way to do geofencing based on both of our phone locations, but I could not find an easy way on IFTTT. But the shortcuts really help with that. We put the app on her phone and we are good. One thing I like is a feature with the microSD card. You can set it up to record continuously for record on the card when there is an event that happens. It can hold 2 days of continuous recording in HD or seven days in SD. I also heard that they are looking to release a product where you can have the recorded videos sent to your own external hard drive and then you can store as many videos as you want for as long as you want. (it's not legal here) Local storage is great for my limited budget, scheduling recordings is essential, and it is a bonus that I can share access to others if needed. FYI, livestream is not the most important to me. I will not use this option. A future video for nanny cam or granny cam users would be great. Excellent review! Thank you. I got two of these on a leap of faith, and I am happy as a clam with them. I will say that I subsequently purchased 32G micro SD cards so I could have local storage. I get four full days full time recording at 1080p. I think that the micro sd card is a must have. We just came back from a trip to the US, and my sister -in-law was so sold by my description of my experience that she bought two from Home Depot. And to my surprise, they sell the cameras with the 32G card included for $34 each.

Very nice features! Very cheap! Cons: no battery option, no outdoor use (no IP classification). No use for my outdoor needs around my house, have rain and in winter snow. This is why I switched to Blink XT and soon the XT2. Full 2 yr use on Lithium AA batteries. No drilling through the brick walls for complicated power cables.

If you put your Wyze Cam under an over hang then it should do good outside as long and there are no leaks anywhere. Another option is to look for an outdoor housing and bracket for the Wyze Cam. (Security.org already did a review on it.)

Easy to setup but after running for a few days the camera motion detector stops working and bridge disconnects from most motion sensors and door contacts. I setup a daily restart schedule to restart each camera. This fixes camera motion detector problem but bridge may not reconnect to sensors after a reset. I don't recommend for security.

Some outdoor cameras are hardwired, some are battery powered. It depends if you have outdoor outlets or not. Own two of the Wyze pan cameras and one of the fixed. They have been great, two rotating ones are mounted outdoors with cover and the fixed is mounted indoors. A few minor issues with pan and track with the latest firmware, the camera seems to track too fast and gets jumpy. I believe I will be replacing the outdoor pan version with the fixed version to assure all activity in selected field is captured. Very happy for the price and love the fact they have free 2 weeks of online storage. One is mounted on the garage which is 50-65 yards from the house, no issue with the strength of wifi at all. This June they did do a fairly big update to the software installed on phone with more new features. Looking forward to the next firmware update. The pan is cool but value for the buck the fixed camera from Wyze rocks, especially when coupled with outdoor case and mount.

Do you know what's the max micro SD card capacity? I know on the official Wyze cam website, it says up to 32gb, but I want to know what's the max. Also, for continuous video recording [with micro SD card inserted], is it true that old videos taken on the camera gets replaced with new videos after the camera runs out of space? And when this happens, does it replace everything or just a few? Lastly, does the camera allow you to access the files via WiFi or mobile in any way without having to pay a fee [if so, how much would it cost and can you access those files via WiFi from the micro SD card itself, rather than using cloud storage] or subscription?

Hi Johnny, Let me get back to you about the max card capacity- I've seen people use 64 GB and be fine, but I want to double check myself. Yes, for continuous recording it will start to overwrite footage if there's no more space- it won't replace everything at once, just the amount of time that it's recording. Gabe - my home in the woods has no internet service. My needs/wants are: 1. Small concealable security device. 2. With no Internet Service available, Record video to local SD during motion detection. 3. Both Indoor/Outdoor options would be nice. 4. Both AC/DC power options would be nice. I know the Wyze camera is Indoor only and only AC powered. Can I setup the Wyze camera with my cell phone where there is an internet connection, relocate the camera to my home in the woods that has no internet service, plug it into the AC outlet and have the camera set to record video to the local SD card during motion detection, remove the SD card to view captured video on a laptop? If not, what are your camera recommendations based on my Needs/Wants criteria? Thanks! Allen

Mochi65 yes, a micro usb power cord is included with each camera and I’m pretty sure it’s 6’ long. There is also a magnetic mount with mounting sticker for the wyze cam v2 and a base ready to receive tripod style mount on Wyze cam pan. I’m happy with both versions.

Questions: I have an android phone and an AT&T internet home network. Is there app availability and security? Does this expose my network to intruders? Will my internal lighting (on timers) or oscillating fans trigger events?

No one got to you, so I am. 1) it will work with your network so long as you have the name of the wifi network, and the password on hand. 2) Yes, I use an Android phone, and the app is very responsive and nice. 3) I am not sure as to the security of this device and whether or not it exposes you to the internet. I am guessing not, considering it authenticates Everytime you open the live feed. 4) You can fine tune the sensitivity of the detection notifications, so it will need a big change in the detection to send a notification. They also recently added a "Person" mode, that will detect people instead of just any movement, works really well.

With the security: Wyze has a good history with security and handling events. They authenticate and use end-to-end encryption for their services and they were hacked approximately 5-8 months ago. (Nothing significant was leaked) and Wyze instantly within a few days revoked and issued new authentication codes and kept their users up to date with info.

Hi, I would do the Wyze Cam. It's better for video, night vision, storage, smart platform integrations, plus it has person detection and is 1/5 of the price. The delay is going to depend largely on your Internet connection, but also the Wyze Cam is plug-in, meaning there's less strain on the battery. Hey Security! I've been looking at this as a nanny cam, what happens if the power goes out? Does it keep recording and then upload afterwards or does it just shut off and have to restart?

The Wyze Cam v2 is wired power only, no battery. So of the power goes out, the camera goes out too. I believe Wyze may not implement an internal battery unless Xiaomi (aka. Mi) implements it. Because Wyze buys the cameras from Mi, flashes custom firmware, and sells them in the western marked while Mi sells the off the line versions in the eastern market. So Xiaomi would have to implement it first. Another option is to use a portable battery pack. You are welcome for the comment.

Yep, there's a 5 minute cool down period between cloud recordings. Cloud recordings are generally 12 seconds, but if you're recording locally it'll go until the event is finished. The biggest problem I have is fitting a 32 GB micro SD card into the camera. Sometimes the camera accepts the cards, and more time than I counted it does not accept the card. For example, I have purchased 9 cameras. In order to save a little of money; I bought San Disk. I few of the fit the Wyze camera, some didn’t. I later purchased a 5 pack of Patriot Micro SD cards, Out of the 5, one worked. I decided to bite the bullet and purchase the recommended Wyze 32GB CLass10 card. It did not fit in the camera. Kept popping out. Since SDHC card must meet the SD Association for compatible, I must conclude it is the WYZE camera itself that is flawed for not accept standard SDHC cards. I own another Wyze products; Bulbs, Outlets, Door Sensors, Motion Sensors, and Bridges.

Hi Tony, yes, the infrared light will reflect off the window. One option is to use black tape to cover the LED lights, but then you won't have night vision.
