The rest she picked were usually in third or fourth so she knows music despite her own irrelevance to today's industry

Tulisa did such a great job with the groups. I think you definitely needed a person with group member experience in order to truly hone the talent for the groups. The groups won because of talent and Tulisa’s guidance.

There's some amazing talent there especially in the girls house, but Misha Bryan is just on a whole other level. She's like a good version of Cher Lloyd with a dash of Rebecca Ferguson and a bit of Nikki Minaj. She's amazing doing the rap and blending it in with incredible vocals.

salome neele came back because of the comment and watched a bit again. This season was a giant cockup with the judges clueless as to what direction to go and then doing damage control. This episode might be the defining moment of that, showing exactly who had real talent, who didn't and how the judges really had no idea what was going on. Proof positive that having been in a group that sold a lot of records does *not* mean you know your craft. Watch Misha B's audition again. It's a true audition. She hits 4 or 5 different styles, demonstrates vocal range and *quality* at each part of the range. The technical aspects of her audition were way more in depth - probably because she put forethought into it. If you watch auditions for musical academies (vocal or otherwise), this is exactly what they are looking for in an audition. The others just got up there and sang a song (Amelia Lily showed more stylistic variation here than the others, but only succeeded at being the best of that group of performers).

You have a very strange view of reality. Little Mix has sold a lot exclusively because they were a girl group managed by a huge production company. Or don't you know how the music industry works? Perhaps you're unfamiliar with concepts of marketing and viral promotions. Sales have almost nothing to do with talent. Name one single thing they have done that stands on its own. That's what a girl band is... boy bands too... a group of people who just couldn't do anything separately. That's why Take5 couldn't keep Robbie Williams who continues to make music, while Gary whatshisface is a hasbeen judge on some show that nobody cares about anymore. That's why 1D can't stay together. That's why Justin Timberlake is Justin Timberlake, not "that guy from that boy band that used to be famous". Maybe some of the girls in LM will break out, but as long as they stay together, they will never amount to anything musically. Commercially, absolutely. But that holds no weight with me. Actually, I would say that the results of these two seasons do in fact show very plainly that the judges and the production companies that ran the campaigns for these individuals were pretty fucking sloppy. Look at Rebecca Ferguson. Easily one of the greatest talents on the show... ever... Her skills were as a strong vocalist, especially when standing among the great voices of soul. She got her recording contract and... it was Pop music... in the style of Beyonce... Beyonce is a great diva, it's true, but totally different style. Rebecca could rub shoulders musically with Etta James and Ella and sell tons of records... Perhaps the studios didn't want that, so they got a fizzle-pop album that sold a few, but had no staying power... instead of creating a female Michael Buble... Indeed, better than Buble. Cher Lloyd was a B-Lister at best right from the get-go. Limited in scope and riding on the shoulders of others. When she got produced, her music was... as expected, substanceless and weak. Her lyrics failed to resonate with... anyone... and have been ridiculed. A perfect example of "if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything". Misha is another phenomenal artist. She has been given opportunities to take the same stage as other divas. And her skills are far beyond those of Cher Lloyd. She's not taken center stage - perhaps because she's not ready, perhaps because she just didn't sit on the right laps... But her skill is undeniable.

But I am talking about their records. The point of what I was saying is that their ability to sing is not related directly to what they are producing. Just as Robbie Williams clearly is able to sing and has been doing well as a solo act. Gary too, but less so. And whoever else was in that group... of course Robbie's music isn't exactly mindblowing to be fair, but he's able to stand on his own two feet for sure. I didn't say he wouldn't amount to anything. I said that if he hadn't gone with a solo act, he wouldn't have. Take5 was nothing compared to the popularity and success of Robbie Williams solo act. I had never even heard of Take5 until about 6 years after the first time I heard Robbie Williams. For LM, they haven't been able to do anything significant musically since they were formed. Much of their music is puerile and unlistenable crap. It's all formulaic "let's make sure everyone gets a chance to sing whatever it is that the agency has purchased from the songwriting company for us". "some of their songs are really breathtaking" - name one. They do have some talent, but their commercial work doesn't show it. And quite frankly, their talent isn't as much as many others out there who have enough talent to stand on their own two feet. The decisions behind the wins for that season were entirely commercial and they were looking for group acts specifically. Anyone else could easily have just gone home. It really was the point where the series itself became pointless. No longer about finding talent and bringing it out, but simply building whatever it was that the production companies wanted to bring to market. Yech. They won over 1D because 1D was more marketable and they needed the win to push the girls up. That has nothing to do with relative talent. The teen girls market is a bit easier to win over than the boys. Boys tend to buy less music. Girls tend to buy more. Hence, push the girls band harder so they get more momentum out of the gates. And 1D is much more popular/lucrative than LM for that exact reason. But if LM had taken second place, they would be a distant memory now, like so many other "Idol" has-beens.

Note sure what your point is here. Some people do well with little talent. Others flounder with lots. I think that's what I said at the outset. As to LM's sexuality, I don't recall it ever being relevant. I guess now they have some videos or whatever that use sex appeal... that's marketing. Can't be bothered to watch their stuff really. What little I have encountered over time has been largely the same weak stuff it always has been. They are puppets with limited talent being directed by companies with even less for the purpose of commercial success and revenue building. Who really gives a fuck about their music? Not them, not their companies and not me. Plenty of great singers out there of every color, shape, gender and orientation. Why waste time propping up those who lack the talent to make it or lack the wisdom to align with those who can make it work? Plenty of good music out there outside of the major production houses without the hundreds of bazillions of views on VEVO.
