To me the baby line was that to him he never saw her as mother, because before he just saw her as partner. You don't picture a friend as a mother, but life partner material. Imagining your once partner as a mother is more intimate and telling of Mulder's growing feelings towards Scully without actually realizing it. It shows fantasy, intimacy of wanting a serene home life and a life partner. It is no wonder this idea takes place in the future.

@ Dominicus X Agree. Mulder used the word "before". In means that he didn't see Scully as a potential mother before this, but now he does. Maybe that's why he became so desperate to save Scully's ova in Memento Mori, a few episodes later. 🤔

"Home" is my aunt's favorite episode. She made my mother and uncle watch it. Both of them were disgusted and extremely disturbed, and said that they never wanted to watch X-files again 😂

Yay! Season 4 is my favorite. I love that you made the comparison between Mulder's ideal place to settle down and where they do end up in the future in the unremarkable house. This episode never scared me. I always loved it because of the personal interactions between Mulder and Scully. Something that the 4th season expands on:)

After watching season 9, going back to episodes like this where Mulder is just being Mulder makes me feel just so comforted. I won't spoil season 9 for anyone if you haven't seen it yet, so don't worry, but it's particularly heart warming to see Mulder doing his classic jokes and his weird way of being himself after the episode titled "William". I know they didn't exactly WRITE Mulder the way they did in hopes of the audience to grin at his character the same way I do because it's a comfort after the depressing episodes we get later, but it is nice, I'm not gonna lie.

I just discovered your channel recently but you're already one of my fave KZbinrs just by seeing these X-Files episode breakdowns. I watched this show religiously as a kid. The Home episode is especially cute, y'know with the inbreeding and infanticide and booby traps and Sheriff Andy Taylor being a real gem.

This episode was definitely about Scully. What kinda messed up mother says 'I wanna stay in this situation because I get to have kids forever as a quadriplegic with no freedom at all'. Also, no one can tell a grown woman when she can have a child. It's her choice. Ain't nobody telling Scully when she will have it. Thanks for the run-down on this episode. It wasn't one of my favoured ones but it raised so many questions. I even checked the wiki for info. Ps. I love your hair.

Hi! I just finished watching all your x-files episode reviews after watching all the x-files season 1-11 for straight three weeks! Your reviews are all on point and exactly what I feel! I’m in love with your channel! My growing obsession with Gillian Anderson started when I managed to watched A Streetcar Named Desire online, and after watching I saw your review about it and I automatically subscribed to your channel because I know that you’re my kind of people! And finding out that you’re also obsessed with Bates Motel and Vera Farmiga made it even more better! Fun Facts: Sheriff Andy Taylor was named after the character played by Andy Griffith, a character who did not carry a gun. Also, the music was a reference to Steven King adaptations that have old timey pop music made creepy. The setting was a northern state but implied to be an area that, culturally, is Dixie. Finally, it was banned from TV after the first broadcast. The ban was later lifted but with a disclaimer.

Welcome back. Excellent review as always. I don’t think I have ever found this episode scary, disturbing maybe but not scary. I always found MOTW episodes like Paper Hearts and Irresistible scarier. Mostly because anyone can run into a Donnie Pfaster or a John Lee Roche whereas how often is anyone going to run into hillbillies without clean water? Never, that’s how often.

I find it to be neither nowadays. I find inbred hillbillies cliche, stupid and actually quite lazy. Shrugs. The ep looks good, I enjoyed it. But I personally have been affected by other, better, episodes. 🤷‍♀️

Mulder not seeing Scully as a mother tells me he can't imagine her with any man other than himself but these two just refuse to admit it. He sees Scully as his work partner and some where inside he can't imagine his life without her. He sees her as his life's partner (though they both fight that with everything they have) as well but how do they get from where they are at to the future they both want. These 2 kept us waiting far too long. She is checking out his gene pool because she knows the same thing and denies it as much as he does. Geez honesty exists until it's about their feelings for each other.....

Good catch with the Unremarkable House from the more recent series...it always reminded me of "Home". FYI: this episode was the first to be preceded by a viewer warning for the graphic and suggestive violence. -The network originally wanted to remove the sound of the crying baby (which assured viewers it was being buried alive). -The actress who played Mrs. PEACOCK also appeared in season 11 "Plus One". - Creepy song heard was Johnny Mathis - "Wonderful, Wonderful"

Ah, season 4.....personal favorite as well. This episode had to grow on me as I didn't expect to see what we got. One of my favorites and fun fact: the actress who played Mama Peacock would come back on the show as she played that brother/sister duo that were hangman playing in season 11.

Yeah, season 4 is my favorite too. There are a lot of sweet moment between Mulder and Scully. The plot is compelling and engaging. Then I love it becouse of the episodes "Tunguska", that, I onestly don't why, I love so much lol.

Anyone who claims this episode is good doesn’t actually remember the specifics. The truth is it features probably the worst FBI operation since the Mueller investigation. Mulder and Scully go in with one inept deputy who is killed instantly, with Mulder making lighthearted jokes just moments after. Instead of waiting for more backup, they go inside and eventually execute the worst standoff in history. Scully watches with a loaded clip as Mulder is violently attacked by two inbreeds at once. She fires several shots, all with long seconds in between resulting in no damage and Mulder still being attacked. Then, she just stands there, watching, with her clip finally empty and having caused no damage. Are we REALLY to BELIEVE that even in this ridiculous 3 man operation, Scully only brought ONE CLIP for her weapon. Many other episodes, Season 8’s Patience comes to mind, where Scully clearly has several clips on her belt in her every day duty. Absolutely ridiculous. Just because it was banned from television, doesn’t make it ‘good’.

I always took it that he has more respect for than to see her as a sex object baby making machine. I think he’s trying to be respectful. Maybe he goes too far i that respect (I mean look how long it takes them to get together!) but I don’t think he means any offence by it.

Yeah. I understand the respect comments below. But I feel like it speaks more to the fact that Scully's character (femininity and maternal instincts) is completely written by men. And I feel like Mulder's comment very poignantly (and accidentally) highlights that.

Oh I totally agree and I think that Scully and her womanhood have been completely mishandled and stamped all over by men with agendas and lack of understanding and empathy but sadly I think all the characters have been mishandled on XFs.

Yeah, I don't think anyone would disagree with that. Scully has had to endure so much fucking pain over the course of the show. I credit Gillian Anderson for always being true to her character and handling all these bad script decisions. Love her.

While not my favorite episode, I like Ghost in the Machine much more than most people give it credit for. I like that it expands on Mulder's academy background and friendships. That's also what I like most about Home, not the gore but the relationship expansion between Mulder and Scully.
