Actually it was Chris Carter who wrote Mulder/Scully dialogues. Even so, you're right, because I've heard that the dialogues King wrote weren't this subtle, so much that Carter had to rewrite them. 😏😏

By season 7 or 8 she is essentially a believer but at war with her scientist mind. She ends up having to tone down her scepticism but also keep her willingness too engage mulder to a minimum as he goes on wild tangents without her keeping him grounded. Same right up to the end of season 11. Part of I feel always kbee it was real just was afraid to admit it as it undermined her belief system and scared her. No longer able to trust in science or government when they can be wrong 1% the time
