Nightcrawler has always been my favorite member of the X-Men and having him give Gambit's eulogy is maybe the kindest and most touching thing this show has done so far. I love the often forgotten callback that Kurt and Rogue are straight up adopted siblings and share one of the strongest bonds on the team.

They’re only siblings on paper and in the barest sense of that - they didn’t even meet until adulthood in this continuity - but they have an instant sibling connection nonetheless. There’s something beautiful about that, honestly. Now, if only we get a mainstream adaptation in which Mystique is to Kurt what her creator meant her to be: his father, who conceived him with her lesbian lover, the blind seer Destiny.

This show is so good at showing us the best versions of our characters. Also, rememberimg Kurt's spirtual side made him the best for a powerful eulogy... But honestly everyline is a masterpiece. Too many stories don't know what to do with Rogue because most of her powers are ones she stole from Ms Marvel (Carol Danvers) which makes her a powerhouse of trouble - great fun getting to see her let loose. As for getting Cap and a Hulk referenfe among other cameo's... The 90s cartoon was before the rights all got split and was always throwing random characters everywhere. As a direct continuation of that story, Im glad the house of mouse is able to continue that in this series too.

You know, I don’t think I could *ever* understate (or even hit on) just how important Kurt as a new team member is in this season’s second half; having lost Remy, we needed someone who doesn’t fit the hole he leaves but rather fills the void with a particular… energy, shall we say? He’s got his own kind of humour and comedy not like Gambit’s, but more prudently he’s a beacon in the tumultuous, stormy sea the X-Men’s ship is trying to navigate. The fact the writers of XTAS loved him so much in his brief appearances, they seriously considered promoting him to the main cast… You can definitely see why, with this episode and how he’s giving Rogue what comfort he can. And that’s not even considering his beautiful eulogy; it’s like an initiation into the team in a strangely fitting, poetic way. Others may have mentioned this but Bastion, the true big bad we just had fully revealed, was foreshadowed; in fact, he had cameo appearances in every preceding episode as the head writer confirmed. The one everyone into comics caught was his being in a photo in Forge’s home (with his head chopped off), but looking back you can distinctly find him. And he’s not the most popular of the Rogues Gallery, but he’s got a good reason to be used in the narrative of this show (or at least this season)

To be fair to the movies, Rogue in the comics and supposedly the cartoon got her flight, strength and invulnerability by siphonimg them from Carol Danvers (and putting her into a coma). They are the few, if not only, powers that she managed to keep permanently. Trying to pit that in the movie back in the 2000 would have been tricky.

@@kellygreen2979 this is not correct. when cable pulls up information about the xmen in one of his first if not the first appearance, he tells his computer to skip over cyclops and jean because he "already knows all about them." this was the creators telling us what we know to be true from the comics is true here. anyone who is aware of comics knows who cable's parent are. recent interviews even revealed that he was always going to be maddie's son in the show (like in the comics) apparently there is supposed to be a flashback at somepoint i dont know the exact episode. but they drew jean's hair down like maddie likes to do rather than keeping it up in a ponytail like jean prefers.

I actually think it is a fair comparision because X-Men is at its best when it's being used to give voice to the stories of people who might feel they have no voice. I have heard that a lot of the conversations around the Genosha scene were essentially the kinds of conversations happening in and around the Pulse nightclub incident. I personally think it is fair to compare Roberto's situation, I personally think that's exactly the story they were telling.

Really love the moment between Beast and the reporter. It was a perfect example of what MLK wrote about. He talked about how the biggest obstacle to progress wasn’t the overtly racist. It was the moderates. People who’d tell the Black community that they’re pushing too hard too fast and it’s scaring people. When every day someone was being oppressed, beaten, or lynched. The moderates are the people who were more concerned about broken windows than innocent blood on the ground. That’s what the reporter sounded like. More concern about other people’s fears than the innocent people who died.

Ok Forge; His primary mutation is the ability to 'create anything he can imagine' even if he has no idea how to do it, he simply 'can'. His go to catchphrase is "I thought about it" He once had brain damage, bad enough it was killing him. No one could help. Jean went into his mind and asked the personification of his mutation to "Think about it". His Mutation created the blueprint for a device that would heal him. Anything, any question, any problem. Forge CAN solve it. But, where the rub comes in. He cant replicate what he makes because he has no idea how it was made. Often, Tony and Reed will get forge to make something just so they can take it apart. Or Forge will send them the schematics for something he thought up. Without his mutation forge is just a regular guy with maybe above average intelligence. And a kick-ass mustache. But with his mutation in full flourish, you want time travel? forge! You want a big gun that destroys anything? forge! you want to solve World hunger on a galactic scale? Reed, with the help of forge.

One small clarification, just cause I think you’ve mentioned it twice, but I feel you’d have know otherwise as a fellow marvel nerd like myself: it’s not as if this world, this world filled with X-men and Captain America’s and Hulks, is classified as the “MCU”. It’s just one of several “Marvel” universes. This one in particular just involves the 90’s Marvel era universe. Although, if you believe in the new “Marvel Multiverse” thing, then I guess it’s ALL canon, someway or another lol Also yeah, Jean/Madelyne and Scott have met Cable in the previous show, but it’s not like they knew who Nathan was before Madelyne was pregnant. They wouldn’t recognize the eyes of somebody that wasn’t born yet, from their perspective. Interestingly the universes in the shows and movies are also separate from the comic versions (ie, both the MCU and the comics universe being 616) but also linked depending on what the writers feel like and how badly things are going to effect the other (ie, Toby and Andrew's spider-men died off-page in Spider-Verse before No Way Home happened, and Spider-Man from the 90's animated series died in the Spider-verse comic, etc.)

Several of the marvel characters featured in the original cartoon. Captain America was in an episode with wolverine. It’s not MCU related in that sense. There were cross overs with the Spider-man cartoon. In relation to episode 6 Charles romance with Lilandra is in the comics and the old show as well. Forge is kind of like a technopath in the sense he is intuative with machinery and knows how things work. He and Storm have magical heritage and he teaches her how to use magic. In relation to Emma, she was a bad guy and then with Banshee let Gen X. After that comic ended she disappeared for a while and then comes back in Extinction in a similar fashion to this. The thing I liked in this is that the psychic affair was originally with Emma. But using Maddie was a really good alternative

One of those interesting things about Deathbird, one of the reasons she's the "lesser" royal sister is that she is the Shi'ar version of a feral mutant, an atavism who still has talons and wings, something her people look down on. After her brother the Emperor T'ken was a lunatic who tried to destroy the universe (but Phoenix stopped him), they made her sister Lilandra (a mystic psychic) who had rebelled against T'ken, into the new Empress. Lilandra employed space-pirates, and even had her own alien mutant boyfriend and his military guard (the xmen), but was still seen as more legitimate than Deathbird. Yes Deathbird is a schemer, and backstabber, but you could always see why she was jealous. @4:20 Unlike Tony, the arms dealer, Forge never had "the money", "the backing", the ego nor the greed of Stark. Forge is just a mutant technopath with the gift to invent, and engineer. @7:09 True, but so unhealthy. Those who remain emotionally committed to people who don't reciprocate their feelings are being abused , and it's not healthy; theoretically, their love will be abused till it is so damaged it dies, or get's left in the past, but when it isn't poisons the giver, and breads an emotional parasitism in the receiver. Don't get me wrong, you love who you love; its not a choice.

Also, with Trask not wanting a Mutant Genocide- even monsters tend to have morals/lines they won't cross- granted, they tend to be way the hell over there, but they still have them. Insofar as Trask specifically (in the greater continuity, i.e., comics), he modified his beliefs- still fearing a mutant apocalypse, but realizing they were essentially people (and could be good or bad) and wanted the Sentinels to protect humanity from bad (i.e., human threatening) mutants, but not to wipe them out.

Not sure it's worse than straight up rejecting him and throwing him out on the street or actively subjecting him to abuse, which is what some parents do when they find out their children are of a nature that challenges their worldview, but it definitely doesn't qualify as a supportive response. It's essentially the "don't ask, don't tell" level of false neutrality that's really just bowing to the oppressive status quo because it's easier and less of a risk to ones own position of privilege than actually trying to use that privilege to meaningfully challenge the status quo and make the world a better place. I do think it could have been worse, but "could have been worse" doesn't get you a cookie. It might get you the popular vote in a two party political system, but it doesn't make you a good parent.

They created secondary mutations in the comics about 12 years ago Emma Frost is a telepath in telekinetic like Jean Grey her secondary mutation she can turn into Diamond form but it blocks her telepathy and telekinetic abilities

grant morrison's run of new x-men is where secondary mutations became a thing, beast turned into like a cat beast, emma got her diamond form then. that's also where the genoshan massacre happened too

Morph's face in the show is based on the Morph character from Age of Apocalypse who wasn't really related to Morph from the show (who was a throwaway character they killed off in the first episode to show how strong sentinels are, but was brought back later by Sinister) so that happy jokester Morph is heavily based on the X-iles Morph (a team of mutants from a bunch of different universes, same series that gave us Blink from the Days of Future Past movie)

Here are some facts for you regarding the characters relations: - Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch are the children of Magneto (Lorna Dane aka Polaris is his third child - she has two cameos in episode 8 and 10 - you can identify her on her green hair) - Rogue is the adoptive sister of Nightcrawler. His mother is Mystique and Mystique adopted Rogue when she was still a kid. - Cable was also in the 90s show and he and Scott and Jean met a couple times, but Scott didn't recognized him, because for Scott he wasn't even born, but Jean read once Cables mind and I think she realized, who he was, but didn't tell Scott for unknown reason. - Sebastian Shaw is the Leader of the Inner Circle of the Hell Fire Club. He was seen on the side of Emma Frost in episode 5 and he probably died on Genosha (maybe on suffocation which would be the only plausible explanation, when the writers understood his mutant power). Bastion, the guy, we saw in this episode is an total other character.

About the Shi’ar, their Empire was one of the leading tyrannies in the Andromeda galaxy. The Kree & Skrulls were fighting for millennia before the Skrulls fell. The funny part is( I don’t know if you’re aware of this) the X-men, Fantastic Four (& Galactus) the Avengers, all - had some of the best comic book stories during that time & they even bled over into each others books ( not necessarily team-ups) but Marvel was establishing that MOST of their comic book characters were all from the same universe - like in the MCU. For instance, Reed Richards was put on trial for helping the entity Galactus by Lilandria & the Shi’ar & the survivors of Galactus’ Hunger. It involved all of them & cameos from Odin, the Watcher & John Byrne( the comic book artist) himself - It was epic.

Yes, they were. Recall, in the original when Jean/Madelyne scanned his mind, she learned the truth. When Cyclops asked her what she saw she was reluctant to tell him other than, “he is relevant to the future, OUR future”. Not sure why they didn’t incorporate that in this series.

@@fallibleangel9101 Yeah, I did a rewatch around 8-10 years ago, but I have forgotten a lot since then. I guess what you're pointing out can be interpreted as knowing or it might mean that she saw memories of him interacting with them. I've watched a lot of review/recap content on the show since then and I guess more people have claimed she didn't know than did so that's why I said this in the first place. I think it's more within reason to agree with you, and I guess mistakes can be made when rebooting a show after 20+ years. Still really happy about the show and I look forward to more.

Forge has the mutant gene and he is a Technopath. Forge can communicate with and manipulate technology. He can also build technological constructs using technology as long as he has the raw material to work with. Forge cannot create technology or raw materials from thin air, he must have the raw materials to work with at hand.

I believe we did not get this version of Rogue for two reasons, 1) her flight, strength, and durability come from absorbing Ms. Marvel's power, which FOX did not have the right to, and she is the adopted daughter of Mystique. M2) Bryan Singer, the director, never read comics as a kid and knew nothing about the X-Men when he directed the movie.

The people who watched the 90s show knew this would be great. The recent track record of Marvel may have given us a bit of doubt. But the firing of Beau solidified that he was probably fired because he was reluctant to add changes but stay true to the classic as well as the source material. They say they fired him for other reasons but i doubt that.

Emma Frost as others have pointed out was introduced as a telepath, but she experienced secondary mutation as a result of the equivalent storyline to episode 5’s genocide, E for Extinction by Grant Morrison where they introduced Cassandra Nova, (as played by Emma Corrin in Deadpool & Wolverine.)

Heads up, Morph is NB and uses they/them now. You'll notice none of X Men gender Morph when talking about them. Morph is comfortable morphing to people of any gender. It makes so much sense for the character and they're written with such enby energy. One of my new faves, such an improvement!

It definitely feels like a natural evolution of the character's portrayal in the '93 series. It makes sense that after settling back into the X-Men, Morph would start feeling more free and comfortable. The "default man" presentation in the old show always felt like a mask anyway, and even when under Sinister's influence, Morph (what was left of them at the time) took obvious delight in changing gender presentation. That tracks as a potentially genderfluid character.

Rogue is definitely hurting right now and she is angry at herself for hurting Gambit. Gambit died thinking that Rogue wanted to be with Magneto instead of him. Rogue knows that's what Gambit was thinking when he died. Rogue regret choosing Magneto and not choosing Gambit. Rouge knows she hurt Gambit and she never got the chance to tell Gambit that she loved him and wanted to be with him instead. Rouge was focus on the physical touch that Magneto was able to provide a human touch but with Gambit he provide something else. Rogue realized that she loved Gambit but she was too late.

But even when they found the deep cut of him, he actually is something else. But my goodness so much happens in episode 8 that I forgot where this ended.

Sebastian Shaw died in the Remember IT episode, he was next to Emma Frost. It's not MCU Avengers. X-Men 92 series had all these characters. X-Men 97 would have had Deadpool too but Ryan said no.
