Easy, because he got crushed by sheer mass. He can't absorb a giant 1 ton rock, lol. If you threw a bunch of hand sized rocks at him though yes he can take the impact and redirect the energy. Nuclear energy is raw energy not an object, he can take that right in. Magneto in the movie gets him with an object. Even if not frozen, if Magneto gets that object through him faster than he can absorb the force same result.

@@rashb3994 Yup, upon reading *comic vine* it states the only way to take him out is crushing him, where he can't absorb a sufficient amount of the kinetic energy being directed towards him. Sebastian is also only an alpha mutant, with his strongest manifestation being able to absorb the kinetic energy of the air around him. Granted I disagree with Shaw being taken out in this manner, due to scans contradicting this in addition to the arguments that can be made as to why he should've been able to absorb the energy of falling rocks, but his death despite my disagreements, is nevertheless true to the source material.
