I really like how they emphasized not just his creativity with his eye beams; but also that he is a world-class athlete. There was a funny comic snippet that circulated recently of him fighting Wolverine…Cyclops was taunting Wolverine the whole time, mocking his flaws. …in his head, however, Cyclops was panicking; he knew that if he slipped up, Wolverine would kill him instantly…so he was desperately trying to come up with things that would make him mad & keep him off-balance. Gambit's power isn't explosions. He can charge items with kinetic energy to multiply the impact it creates. That's why his cards usually slice things up before they explode. He could charge swords to cut through things but it's not as efficient and quick as charging compact items like playing cards.

But Rogue's adoptive mother was afraid they'd be captured if Captain Marvel was still able to fight. So Rogue held on for a lot longer than she wanted to and it resulted in her permanently absorbing her powers and putting cap marvel into a coma.
