It's kind of hilarious that as I watched the first two episodes, a lot of the returning voice cast sounded "off" (because it's been 20 years), and yet one of the voices that made me think, "His voice hasn't changed one bit!" is Cyclops, who is voiced by a different actor.

@Halauris
@Halauris 2 ай бұрын
The show was never woke nor was the X-Men or this new show. Stan Lee said it was never about any particular social issue. More of a stand in for anyone who didn't fit in or who felt disenfranchised only isolated. It can literally mean anyone, youth, nerds, anyone. It's not necessarily about gay, race, gender or sexual orientation. If a person feels it fits them for that great, but it wasn't done by design.

Sony made spider verse and DC is constantly putting out animated bangers. It's baffling that DISNEY refuses to make animated shows up until recently and when they do it's okay at best. I'm glad that this is as good as it is. Maybe they'll realize the new Renaissance should be an animation. The west loves animation, especially now because of anime. Come on now! Disney. 5:57 Though it doesn’t push the action forward, this type of character building is exactly the type of thing that the Fox X-Men movies lacked. Specifically in attempting to tackle the Phoenix saga without giving the audience enough character development for Jean’s fall into madness to hit. I’m loving the series so far. That’s one of the reasons I became a fan of the x-men. I could believe these characters hung out with each other outside of missions. And that we could have fun moments with the villains. Like Destiny not telling her allies that a wall would fall on them because she knew Stonewall and Avalanche would be fine. And seeing Spiral fail was fun to her. And I’m there thinking “of course the 100 year old meticulous oracle would hate working with the chaotic, constantly dancing time and dimension hopper.

Storm was depowered in the comics in a similar fashion in the mid 80's. Regardless, she came back to the team and took leadership from Cyclops nonetheless. Maybe we'll see that playout during this season. Coz yeah, Cyclops is a square peg, and Storm is a more fascinating leader type. Yeah, Rogue and Magneto being a thing was also a 90's thing in the comics and it was creepy af considering that Mags is old enough to be her freaking grandaddy. Ugh. It's fascinating seeing folks calling this show woke, but you gotta understand that the kids that saw this show back then probably missed the whole political context behind the X-Men and only saw superhero vs. villain battles and grew up to be ignorant dickheads. It goes to show that media literacy is at an all-time low and that nobody really cares to actually know the things they comment on anymore. This idea around throwing buzz words at everything because they think it makes sense when an actuality it doesn’t and now we’re seeing people rise up and call it out even more. X-Men is one of the most recent examples but now I’m seeing it with the new Final Fantasy game and the Fallout show get this treatment as well. People have had enough of these grifters online and engagement seekers tout this belief they have which by the way it’s not even real because they’ve admitted they do it for money.

I read the comics during the 80s and 90s run; so I know of Erick and Rogue's past. It was also one I really liked. In fact; the "Age of Apocalypse" storyline, and I wish it could have been in the real storyline
@BaithNa
@BaithNa 2 ай бұрын
I personally felt that their relationship made way more sense in the AOA storyline because not only was it Rogue's only real option for a physical relationship but Magneto is a whole different dude after the death of Charles and they found solace in each other under the tyrannical rule of Apocalypse

I absolutely love it. I started collecting comics in 1990, and started with the X-Men. Storm has always been one of, if not my most, favorite characters. To see her unleash hell on those sentinels is one of the best moments I could imagine.

We all knew the anti woke grifters would do the most incredible mental gymnastics to criticize this show but that all failed last week. The week of the premiere, they haven't even mentioned the show on their channels. They already know they lost this battle and are quietly looking for other things to rage about.

I kinda like them better in animated form. Live action is not a superior medium to animation. It doesn't legitimize X-Men or anything else being adapted, to have it see a live action release. This could all be done in animated form.

Batman: TAS and X-Men were definitely the 1-2 punch that got me excited about superheroes. They were fine for kids to watch, but they felt like they elevated above a kids show in terms of action, themes and story telling. So happy this reboot happened and can’t wait to dig in to it. Glad you enjoyed it so much and thanks for being so frank about how calling a team that has served as an allegory for discriminated groups for 60 years nooooow being “woke” is just hilariously wrong-minded.

Great review! I really appreciate your Ebert-esque way you review film/TV looking at what the film/show tries to be and how well it achieves that (both on a story level and technical level) and then bringing in your own history, ideas, personal experience (Kael critique). I also really enjoyed these new episodes and this continuation felt authentic and genuine in a way a number of modern sequels or remakes of shows/intellectual properties of the 1980s and 1990s have not necessarily. Tom Gun Maverick would be another example of a great 1980s property being continued with both respect and understanding of the original while still forging ahead with new material. Anyway, great job as always, Dan! I have never thought of watching criticism necessarily being to agree with the reviewer. I've always felt like you should find critics who speak to you and who make you think about works, not necessarily just an echo chamber of your own ideas and I found that with Roger Ebert, with A.O. Scott, and others, but also with you.

This is the best thing D+ has done, not shying away from the grandeur in the dialogue and the one liners, the action is such an upgrade from the original. I can’t wait to show it to my kids, I feel like the kids of today need this show, I really hope the younger generation gets in to it. I had a Catholic upbringing and if it wasn’t for the original Xmen show I know I would have grown up with a more intolerant world view, especially growing up in a small blue collar town. Don’t get me wrong I love my roots, I’m just trying to say that the original Xmen helped me become balanced and a better person. I carry the lessons from them everyday of my adult life. I know there are a lot of people who grew up in the 90s who feel the same, this cartoon literally helped shape a generation in North America, on a shoe string budget and hitting roadblocks throughout its production, it’s just nuts how good it is.

My only knock in the animation is that it looks kinda X-Men: Evolution with its early digital high saturation coloring, especially in bright lighting. That’s probably more of a nitpick, but it’s frustrating since the animators get the coloring better when everyone is in shadow
