Why did they make Silver Samurai a giant mech suit in the Wolverine movie?

The giant mech suit is an exoskeleton whose main purpose is to sustain Ichiro Yashida via life support system. It came with a pair of adamantium swords that can be super heated, and used to cut off Logan's claws. The armor also had integrated inside it a genetic manipulation device which enabled Ichiro Yashida to extract biological material from the bodies of mutants through a series of mini-drills and transplant them into his own body in order to gain their powers. In the film, Yashida drilled into Logan's knuckles and harvests his bone marrow in order to obtain his healing abilities and grow younger.
